PARATHESIA IN MENOPAUSE

Hi all ,
I am 51 and haven't had a period for over two years now. I have been getting joint pains mainly in the knees for a long time now diagnosed with mild arthritis but in the last few weeks I have had numbness in one toe on my left foot and tingling on the side of the same foot and also numbness in my hand on the same side. I have been to the doctor and had nerve tests and all ok. I have been put on hrt to see if it helps been taking it for a month now and as yet still have the symptoms. Just wondering if anyone else had these symptoms as I was worrying I had Ms. I have been diagnosed with a folic acid deficiency and been taking them for three months and symptoms still there so it's not that.

Hi, yes I get it too. I'm 51 and been getting it for over 2 years now (I still have regular periods). My doctors have no idea what it is but won't refer me to neurology, saying its probably "mild compression" on a nerve. I've asked could it be hormonal and was laughed at. However, I truly believe it is because so many other women get something similar in peri/meno as I now know from this forum. I only get it at night. I wake up probably 3 times a week with pins and needles in one or both of my hands. Several times a year I will wake in the middle of the night and my left foot is completely numb. I hate it but dont know what to do. At least you've been properly checked out, take comfort from that
I havent tried HRT for long enough to find out if it works (had massive panic after 2 weeks and stopped taking it!). Hope it works for you but you probably need to give it a good few months. Keep us posted x

Hi ,
I will keep you posted. I saw another thread on here with lots of menopausal women that had the numbness and tingling so it's reassuring to know that other people have experienced it. There needs to be more information about the menopause as so many more symptoms than just got sweats and weight gain. I have only been on HRT for about three weeks so far so hoping in a couple if months the symptoms will ease.

I have the numbness in both hands, one toe feeling numb at times on right foot and it's a crazy feeling considering all the meno crap we have to go through. I take the vitamin supplements and pray. That's all I can do as the Dr's don't seem to know what to do. We can go to the moon and treat other diseases and issues but can't seem to figure this meno thing out for us ladies. It's horrible! I just had to receive a shot in my hip too for the severe pain I was feeling. Menopause seems to get better in some areas however; when something gets better, a new symptom appears. Praying we all get better and get through this. Take Care!

So glad I am not the only one experiencing this as I told the doctor about the one numb toe pins and needles in the same foot and the numb hands and she looked at me like I was mad then I saw on here there is a thing called Pararthesia in the Menopause so I know I'm not going mad. They tell you about the obvious in the menopause sweats weight gain insomnia but no one says anything about these worrying unusual symptoms. As much as I dont want you to be suffering too it helps to know I'm not the only one.

No ma'am, you are not the only one. It's scary and very concerning. Sometimes I can't type or do anything without the numbness and that big toe has gotten numb b4. I'm shaking my hands to rid the feeling and praying for healing. God Bless Us All!

I too am so sick of the "hot flashes" and weight gain as the main description of Menopause. I didn't have weight gain, i had a couple hot flashes, but its the other symptoms that are far more worrisome and people need to be aware of that . Dizziness, light sensitivity, unbalanced when walking, forgetfulness, brain fog. numbness in hands and feet , anxiety, depression. There is a whole gamut of things that could be associated with menopause, I hope we all find help !!!
