Paresthesia after chiro and anxiety

I went to the Chiropractor last week because I've been having tension headaches caused by anxiety/stress.  They performed a neck adjustment and I had a little neck pain/soreness a few days later with a prickly feeling in my neck and shoulders.  I went back in for a second adjustment and he did the neck and spine.  A few hours later my neck was hurting again and he said it was from a really tight neck muscle that was trying to pull the vertabrae back out.  The next day I began to feel paresthesia or prickly sensations all over my body anytime I moved.  It's in my hands, feet, chest, back, neck but if I lie still I dont feel anything.

I ended up freaking myself out and went to the ER when the symptoms were still present a few days later.  They ran some bloodwork and did a CT scan of my neck which the bone structure was normal.  They said I could do a neck MRI but ended up discharging me saying it was likely a pinched nerve somewhere.

I'm still having the paresthesia sensations everytime I move and I have major anxiety over it.  I've read it could be signs of a stroke or something wrong with the arteries.  Has anyone experienced this before?

Part of me wants to believe its from the adjustment and the nerves getting pinched that were in the way when the vertabrea were moved.  I've had this feeling for the past 6 days and its very uncomfortable and causing me to miss work and life events.  Should I wait it out or go back to the ER?

Pinched nerves can last a couple of weeks. This is not the first time ive seen a chiro related post like this but it is the reason id never see one. Id say just get a nice deep tissue massage going forward.

Yeah but with pinched nerves isn't it isolated to one spot? The feeling I get is all over my body anytime I move

It is definitely NOT  a stroke, ok. I'm a nurse and the symptoms are VERY different, trust me.

The parasthesia will gradually diminish. I daresay it was a pinched nerve.

Wait it out. You don't need to go to the ER.

The signs of a stroke are sudden and dramatic. You fall to the floor. One side of your body is paralysed. You have great difficulty speaking and your mouth droops on one side.

With early and immediate treatment a great many stroke patients recover completely. The ones who don't recover completely generally get a pretty good life back. In most people the paralysis disappears and the speech difficulty disappears.

Obviously some people are not so fortunate but the earlier you get to the ER, the better your chance of recovery.

I'm telling you this because clearly, you haven't had a stroke.

Keep posting - let us know how things are going.

Thanks for the response, I know I'm not currently having a stroke I was just concerned that the paresthesia all over could be an indicator/ precursor of one or something else if it hasnt gotten any better in a weeks time.  My other theory is just the chiropractor awoke all my muscles and nerves and they are overreacting to every movement and being pinched/inflamed causing me to feel these weird prickly pains all over when I move

TJ, what the chiropractor did, and the parasthesia you are now experiencing, could not possibly cause a stroke. A stroke a is a suddden major bleed within the brain, and has no relationship to parasthesia whatsoever.

I hope you will start to lose the anxiety (which I quite understand) and wait for the parasthesia to settle down.

My personal favourite alternative therapy is cranial osteopathy.

Keep calm - you're going to be just fine - and keep posting, so that we can support you.
