    Hi Stuart:

I have been on Citalopram for just shy of five weeks. Week one at 10 mg, week two at 20 mg, week three 30mg, then Dr. had me go down to 20mg because he thinks I'm losing too much weight, 25 lbs and too nervous. I have had great trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, suicidal thoughts in week two and tree, but, really no headaches. It has helped with the anxiety and I felt just this week that maybe it has "kicked in" for me, finally. Had lots of very dark, bothersome thoughts and much better now. But, there will be good days, bad days, empty days.

Would just like to add this is 20mg daily. Some days are more manageable than others. Combo of aspirin and paracetamol helps when they are not too severe. Over most of the other early side effects, yawning, nausea, sleeplessness, shivering to name a few.still get vivid dreams but kinda enjoy them. Doc wants me to consider amytryptilene or change meds, have read that this medication can take up to eight weeks to kick in fully. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply Ron. I seem to get more anxious about the on set of a headache as soon as I wake in the morningi am trying hard not to worry about it.I really do feel a lot better some of the day but am constantly aware there is something going on in my head. Its the weirdest feeling that I am aware that something is working away in there. If I can just get rid of these headaches or if someone can share their experience that would be great, I want to know whether I hang in there. Glad your feeling better Ron.

Hey, thanks Stuart.  Yea, I've, thankfully, not had any headaches, but, initially lots of yawning, but, that has subsided.  For me, sleeping has been a real problem, my Dr. did prescribe one week of sleeping pill, which has helped a little.  Still have bad thoughts, but, not as much.  I would say to try to hang in there, if you feel the medicine has been beneficial to you.  Many say that it takes 4-6 weeks for it to fully kick in.  Good luck to you, Stuart.

    Hi Stuart,

I started out on 10 mg for four weeks and then increased to 20 mg 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have had some fairly significant headaches and they did subside. Right now, I get more of a pressure feeling in my head. It feels like their is a band around my head. I had these on 10 mg and then again on 20 mg. Today, the head pressure feeling wasn't quite as bad. I am hoping that side effect is ending like the headaches did.

I would say to sick with it for a little longer. I understand about wanting to throw in the towel. I am doing much better, but know I have a few more weeks at 20 mg. to have the full effect of the medication.
