Part knee replacement

Hi I'm on day 5 after having a partial knee replacement I'm 50. I had a spinal for the op and I have back ache and hip ache on the side of the operation. Is this from the chiselling and pulling during the op or the spinal I had. Also I'm doing quite well as only using one crutch when really achy. Also if someone could tell me the most comfortable position to sleep in as I curl up on my side normally so I'm having pain bending the knee so trying to sleep. On my back and it isn't working for me.

I found it helpful to prop my self up to sleep on back but have difficulty laying flat on back but that’s how I had to sleep originally I am 7 week’s post op and can sleep on side now kinda comfortable but back still best option. Also, you can try pillow between legs if you want to try side. That helped some. Wishing you all the best in your recovery

Hi. I am now 9 weeks post op and have found it a long road ! I am 56 and had a total . If you read on here, you will learn so much. The thing is, no one tells you that not only your knee is traumatized, but so is the whole of your leg. Pain spasms, stiffness the works. I also sleep on my side and only achieved this at 6 weeks with a pillow between my knees and even now that is the norm. Think you are doing brilliant, just don't push yourself too far too soon. Sue

Sounds like you’re doing great for so early on. I’m a side sleeper, and those early days were hard for me sleeping. I propped myself up on pillows and then found I was able to tilt on to my operative side with a pillow behind my back, and another between my knees.  Around month four, I could go on my other side, but not for long periods. Now. At month 10+.....I can sleep any way I want!! 😉  And I had my “ice machine” on my knee which helped too! Good luck with your recovery, and don’t rush things. It can take a year or more to get back to “normal”! Some are luckier, and recover more quickly. But give yourself time to heal.
