Partial Blindness in one eye

hi all,
First Post here as I'm at a loss. I went to my optician for eye pain that feels like my eyes straining constantly. he gave me the all clear nothing sinister and recommended eye drops for dry eye.
however, gradually I have been experiencing a band like a line of blindness In one eye. it's just a blur. I wear glasses and had 2 colds recently.
any help would be appreciated. the drops haven't helped. I'm worried. I plan on revisiting the optician but I'm having to isolate at the moment due to my partner.
thanks in advance.

Try a different optician for a second opinion. If they also cant find anything wrong and the pain persists, then do talk to your GP. They may wish you to refer you to an ophthalmologist at a hospital.
This may be something that will go away as mysteriously as it started. As you have had 2 colds it may be something related to your sinuses.

thankyou for your reply. I was waiting for it to show as it was saying being moderated.
do you believe that it's nothing sinister if the second optician finds nothing? I'm worried. I cant do anything about it till after isolation too.

No one on here can give you a definite diagnosis so do read my advice again . I think its the best thing you can do......see another optician, then see your doctor.

As Marina said, this could be due to some inflammation of the sinuses or even due to conjunctivitis, which is a relatively common infection of the eye and can be caused by the flu virus, bacteria or fungi.
Also, depending on what you have taken for your cold, this can be an adverse effect of the treatment.
Several drugs can, in certain circumstances, cause effects in the eyes, such as painkillers (blurred or double vision, narrowing of the pupil, and difficulty seeing in the dark), antiallergic drugs (drying of the eyes, sensitivity to light, itching, redness, burning, and increased tearing), corticosteroids (increased intraocular pressure and damage to the optic nerve), and antibiotics (burning eyes and increased sensitivity to light).
So my advice is the same: wait until the isolation period is over and seek the opinion of another specialist.

thanks all for you're replies.
just an update. I saw an optician. I have optic neuritis plus a referral to a specialist for further tests for the cause.

hi! how did they determine optic neuritis? i saw an optomotrist two weeks ago. I went due to noticing my right eye vision seemed off. At first, he said everything looked fine. Then i failed the field vision test, but passed it later when he out a prism on the machine. He took a picture of my eye and said my optic nerve looked pale, said it could be optic neuritis or many other things he didnt want to tell me due to not wanting to worry me. I was worried about a tumor. Apparently MS is also common. My dr ordered a ct scan with contrast and i had an mri with no contrast. No MS was found and no intercranial pressure or tumors. My field of vision is still off. If i test out how far up i can see with each eye, the right eye is a much smaller field. i switched over to wearing my glasses and i feel like i can see better in them and that never happens. i am supposed to see a neurologist in a few weeks and im really scared about what could be found. My dr said "we ruled out all the really big and scary things with the brain scans." But, i dont believe rhat! Any ideas?
