I do not think that the actual procedure caused this but I am suspicious that he may have had a stroke or some other form of hypoxic brain injury during surgery or after. You could help jog the return by showing pictures or telling stories of things that you have been through together. His family can also do the same. There is no guarantee that all or any of his memories will come back, but you have everything to gain by trying. I hope he does get his life memories back. Best wishes.

    Dear

I'm so sorry to hear that you and your partner are going through such a terrible thing!  What a frightening story!

To have ended up with such memory impairment is a tragedy, but I don't think it could have happened directly as a result of the endolymphatic sac decompression. Typically, sudden memory loss would be due to brain damage, some other disease process, drug reaction or psychological trauma.

Did he have any sort of anesthesia, or other drugs given to him that day? Some people are extraordinarily sensitive to certain drugs, and it indeed could result in temporary memory loss.   Was he petrified of having the procedure?  Did he have any other symptoms, like trouble with speech or vision, or loss of strength in any other body parts?

Most important:  What have his doctors said about it?

Again, I'm so sorry you're going through this difficult time.

    Sincerely,

    J-

Omg - how traumatic for you both. My heart goes out to you both. It is the next surgery option that I was considering. Were you warned this could happen?
