Since the last infection and cystoscope back on the 10 June, I have to go to the toilet every 3hrs  I drink at least 3 lits per day of water plus tea & coffee  And it starts off fast flow then it stops and starts and then it dribbles all down my pants leg I feel that the bladder is not emptying fully  and the strong wee smell not good I don't like being in public placer's for too long as of the swell I change my pants every day and shower . Has anybody else had this problem, Have I still got the infection?

Just buy men's incontinence pads to put in your underwear then you won't have the dribble problem or the smell.  I used them all the time for the post void dribble.  Problem solved.

sounds like an enlarged prostate.  Your bladder, is not emptying out completely so you have to urinate often. Go and see a urologist, and ask him  or her that you would like to try a catheter.  With the catheter, you will be able to empty out your bladder completely and so going to urinate will be much less often.  I use a FR 14 coude tip and the company is Coloplast.  It's the best thing I did so far for my prostate and bladder!

Hi Dennis,  Thanks for that info  My dr did say the prostate was large but said it was my age? I don't believe that I am only 73, I'd say yes if I was 93 but not this early  Now how old are you and how long have you had the catheter?  Do you have to have a Nurse to put in? As I don't think I could put it in on my own as I have tremors  Wait for your reply Dave

David,  I am 69 years old and will be 70 in November.  I've  been doing CIC for almost two years. At first, I didn't think I could put the catheter in myself.  I was dreading the thought, of having to push the catheter down into my penis and into the bladder.  I thought that it would be impossible to do.  I was wrong.  It is very easy to do.  In fact, I used to play a little game with myself.  I tried to see how fast I could do it.  I could never do it in less than 3 seconds, from inserting the catheter, to reaching the bladder.  I stopped playing that game, because once when I was trying to beat my time, I started to bleed.  I thought to myself, this is really stupid.  So now, I just take my time and go slowly, so as not to injure myself.  It takes maybe a minute from insertion to reaching the bladder. If you have tremors, I think you could still do it.  Once you insert the catheter into the penis, I think even if your hands are a little shaky, you already have it in the penis, so gently guide it down till you reach the bladder, just keep going till the urine starts to flow.  Good luck!  By the way, do you have a wife or girlfriend, that could help you do it?  Maybe that could at least get you going till you are more familiar with doing it yourself.

Hi Dennis what day in November is your B/Day mine is 29 11 1944

Do you have numbing ointment to put on your Penis or disinfected ointment and what sort of bag do you have how many liters does it hold. So why do you have a catheter? How long does one last for and how much are they each. No, I haven't got a partner I live alone I'd most likely have to get the District Nurse to cum and help me depending on how many days does it last in me.I have more q& A but this will do for a while. You sound to be a nice man would you like to be a friend to me and we could email each other  as a pen pale  If you would like to, my email address is Are you married  Don't forget the dot between david . mckay.....

don't need a numbing ointment. Doesn't hurt, if you go slowly.  My birthday Nov. 23, 1948.  No bag either.  Just stand over a toilet, and let it flow into the toilet.  I have a catheter, because I can't empty my bladder completely, because my bladder muscles are not toned enough, from years of being stretch out, from an enlarged prostate. Because I couldn't empty my bladder for many years, my bladder lost its elasticity, much like a worn out sock.  Once the elasticity is gone, the old sock, will be limp, if you can picture that. The good news is that guys like JimJames, on this forum, was able to recondition his bladder, to the point where he can urinate on his own without a catheter.  It took Jim two years to do it, but it is at least possible.  I am striving for the same results. If you are planning on using a bag, that would be possible.  All you got to do is empty the bag several times a day.  Easy to do, just undo the plug, and the bag will empty.  When the bag fills up again with urine, stand by a toilet, then un do the plug and the bag will empty.  You can probably use the same bad for a month.  I remember having to do that when I had to wear a bag.  The  bad part is the bag is attached to your penis, 24/7.  For me, it was very uncomfortable.  That's why, I decided to self catheter, which frees me up from having wearing a catheter all the time.  Good Luck!
