Passed a pile.....

I had my THD op 12 days ago. The usual pain and discomfort but no blood until today. Today however I went to the loo and passed enough to make the pan red without straining too much. 4 hours later I passed more with a lump of non poo material in it. Would this be a tied off roid? Bleeding stopped very quickly and no pain. Any ideas?????? Sorry if it's a bit gross but don't know where to get advise

hi Russell, I'm guessing so.  I had a THD as well as an open haemorrhoidectomy and had what you describe after  a week or so. Can't recall exactly. I'm on 6 weeks now and only just feeling human again. Hope that's some comfort.

Thanks Gordon. I guess I am lucky ish, back at work after 8 days, uncomfortable but not too much pain luckily. Feel let down by consultant though they don't prepare you at all for what to expect.....

I think they underplay it on purpose so you don't cancel it. I phoned my consultant who didn't seem surprised after 3 weeks that I was not ok and said give it another 2 or 3 weeks.  I think mine has been more of an issue because of the open haemorrectomy. I was still swollen until last weekend and still am very slightly. On tramodol for over 3 weeks. I'm self employed so had to work to some degree but only this week felt well enough to work properly. It's such a relief now despite not being 100% healed that it's almost a pleasure. Still uncomfortable to sit mind. I won't consider I'm fully healed until I can ride a push bike again which maybe a while yet.

I think it will be a long while before my bike sees the light of day. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Russell, I had the HALO procedure 3 months ago - this is pretty much the same as THD. My consultant told me to expect to pass blood after about 2 weeks, he said some people pass a considerable amount and this is normal but if it doesn't stop you need to seek medical advice. The lump you passed could have been a blood clot, fortunately it didn't happen to me. As for recovery time, I was off work for 4 weeks after being told to expect to be ok after 1 week.

Hi little miss, I guess I am luckyish, back to work on day 8 and no pain at all on day 14.... Still taking movicol as the loo frightens me!! I was told I would be called back for check up in 4 weeks, the appointment came in today for the 4th January! I guess that's the NHS. I did not see the consultant once after the op, I said thank you as I was wheeled out of theatre and that's the last I saw him, not impressed by that.

4th Jan?? - that's appalling. I had a check up after 6 weeks but not with the consultant, I had a thrombosed haemorrhoid (apparently), it was extremely painful and I was worried I would have to have more surgery. I was told my body should absorb it without further intervention. I had another check up this week with the consultant who performed my op (12 weeks after my op) and was told everything looked fine. So finally I feel ok.
