Passenger in a car

How long has anyone else left it after THR before travelling in a car as a passenger? ( apart from the journey from hospital back home)

it says 6 weeks in the book but that seems an awfully long time.  How has everyone else managed?

    hi Maloo,

same here ... ride home 4 days post-op, then first appointment at 14 days - friend's car has high seats - my own car is a little low seated Fiat and drove at around 5 weeks post-op from 1st THR but 7/8 weeks post-op 2nd one - getting in and out of the car was challenging -

no automatic, no power steering or breaks cry

    big warm hug

Hi i was a passenger about 10 days post op - I had seat pushed back and swung legs in. Went back to driving after 6 weeks - would recommend sitting in car and seeing if you can do emergency stop  and start with short distances . My first drive was probably too long so felt a bit uncomfortable.

    Hello Malloo,

I have been driving since 6 weeks and am now 12 weeks, but still find I limp across the car park after my journey to work. I think car seats make your knees a bit high. I'm OK once I get warmed up and don't limp after that. I always sit in bottom first and swing the legs in. That's probably the most important thing otherwise you are going to twist your body too much.

Just have the seat right back and make yourself comfy with cushions.
