PCO 9 months after surgery

hi all, had cataract surgery in Feb 2019 and just got back from optho and she says i have the beginning of PCO. I had no idea. she advises I wait to do YAG until it becomes bothersome. I am in shock as I thought my vision was good. I read 20/20 today. Did this happen quickly to anyone else? how fast is it likely to get worse?

Can happen within weeks. 9 months sounds very good, specially if someone is young.

    .

You only YAG when it interferes with your vision.

So if not experiencing symptoms i leave things be. Does PCO always progress and how fast? been googling and can't find answers.

"So if not experiencing symptoms i leave things be." - YES

"Does PCO always progress and how fast? " - it is fast for kids, younger patients and those with posterior sub capsular cataracts.

posterior subcapsular cataracts require surgery correct? not YAG.

she said i had some mild scarring that she'd remove with laser when it bothers me. is that typical PCO? or is that posterior subcapsular cataract? Those are treated with surgery not YAG right? i'm getting confused.

posterior subcapsular cataract requires surgery. however this condition is prone to faster PCO.

gotcha. i have a call in to doc to ask some questions about the severity of the PCO. I'm searching for a symptom this morning but vision is clear so far. Now I'll be checking constantly:(

My severity is now 2+. What IOL do you have?

With right eye 1+ PCO, I did not notice symptoms. With left eye 2+ (and probably worse now), I did notice symptoms. If you don't have symptoms, my advice is don't do the YAG.

acrysof toric lens. what do you have? wondering if it is the IOL or the surgeon or just bad luck?

i have the symfony. i believe it is combination of surgeon/age/type of cataract/bad luck/use of femtolaser.

My right eye yag was for a fold causing a very pronounced light streak (maddox rod effect). After yag, I saw mulitple light streaks (not as strong and not on all lights, but bothersome). Dr thought it could be from the edge of the capsulotomy so he enlarged the hole and most light streaks are gone. I now also see more glare/halos around lights.

did you not have those halos at all right after your first surgery since it was monofocal?

I haven't always noted things, but there is one test I have done regularly. We have recessed lighting in our kitchen and at night from my family room, I now see slight halos in my yagged RE. I am 99% sure they were not there from initial surgery up until YAG. The halos are also there and much worse in my PCO LE (and getting worse as I suspect PCO is increasing). These are not strong lights, so they don't bother me in any way. But it's a concrete example of the change. Obviously headlights are worse. Please know that I can live with this, but I now totally understand when people say their vision got worse after YAG. I don't know what causes the change. While I presume the majority of YAG cases are successful, it's unfortunate to be in the small percentage of those with problems.

immediately after surgery i saw clear thick halos as i got closer to the light. i test this against our kitchen can lights. after pco they seem to have merged somewhat with the surroundings.
