Hi,
I'm a 17 year old girl who had been diagnosed today with PCOS. I'm not going to lie, I am fairly scared about all this and I just need some help on what to do about it.
I have irregular painful periods, i'm slightly overweight and I have acne. The doctor advised me to go on the pill yasmin or get a scan done to fully confirm I have this. I just want to talk to people who have had, or do have this as it will help me to come to terms with what I've got.
Its a very frightening prospect to not have a period for 4 months, get it on Monday and then think everything is fine until going to the doctors. Then BAM, your diagnosed with something and it suddenly gets serious.
Please, if you have any advice at all I would be really grateful for the help =]
Thank you x

My daughter was in your situation when she was 14. First of all, don't panic - go and have a look at Verity, who are an online forum and source of info on PCOS. There is a teenager section as well.
Yasmin has been very good for my daughter, helped regulate the periods, lessen the flow and the acne has been controlled much better.
About one woman in 25 has this condition - it's just not always diagnosed.
See the other posts here also by using the pcos search term.
Best of luck,
Fay

I'm 24 and I also have PCOS and have found something that dramatically improved my symptoms within weeks! I didn't have a period for 6 months at one time.
If you read my thread, there is more information on it..
But basically I found that by going Gluten free I lost weight, I had a period and all pain stopped.
I have joined this forum because I'd like to let people know about my experiences as they really worked for me.
If you'd like to talk further please message me.

I too was diagnosed many years ago with PCOS , and unfortunately back then they knew very little about the condition, so I was basically told just to go away and deal with it, I was very fortunate and some how against all odds had 4 children. But now I find myself going back over in time as my daughter was diagnosed with it at 17.
She has just been told to follow a diet called the south beach diet to help her lose weight, as apparently lots of carbohydrates don't help and in some cases along with the PCOS can cause type 2 diabetes. Things have come on so much since I was diagnosed and especially with in the last 5 year , I battled for years with my
Weight only to be told now its part of the condition as is ache and having hair growth on arms and face, my daughter also has a hormone imbalance which means her chances of having a family naturally are none, but if she takes on all the help she has been offered and keeps her womb and body healthy one day it may happen so don't panic there are plenty things to help and now plenty places to come and talk to people who are going through it also. Read up on it look at all the different sights talk to people, your not alone even though it is a very scary time in your life. Never give up hope x
