Pcos - my weight is my issue

Posted , 5 users are following.

I was diognosed a few years ago when my period went missing - i havent had a period in 4 years now naturally. I have had various scans on my overies and a dye test on my tubes, my cervix is where is should be and apart from cysts everything is normally i have been diognosed with pcos. I do have hair on my face which really gets me down. I currently weigh 13 stone and my height is 5ft 4. My BMI was 31.9 but has currently reduced to 30 possibly down to the Metaformin i have been given. I have been told the reason i do not have a periods is down to my weight and this is causing me not the be able to concieve. I do feel like a number as i dont meet the nhs criterias currently for ivf or for any other medicines due to my weight. sadly this hurt as a baby is them most natural thing to happen to a woman and i feel like i am being stopped from having one as i dont meet national criterias. Does anyone else feel unhappy?

I'm in the same position. Although I'm 20 and not looking to have children at this time in my life I am absolutely petrified that there is a chance I might not be able to.

I've been to see doctors about the weight and hair aspect ( I have it everywhere ) but they don't appear to want to do anything about it.

Obviously being at the point in my life where I'm at university and going out age my apperance means a lot to me for several reasons and this is really getting me down too.

Yeah I know exactly how u feel, I been diognosed with PCOS for 5 yrs but I knew something was wrong when I was 16/17 yr. I went to the doctors told them about getting a late period and that I was out sorts from the moment go, so they put me on the pill.... When I came to diognosed PCOS as you know you can't be on the pill so I had to wait for a natural period which too over 6mths, from that point I only had one scan done on my overies to confirm that I had PCOS, haveonly seen the  speciatist 3 time and was told to talk Metaform, which I laugh at as it a type 2 dietabetic drug. Which I not... I am over weight yes I can understand, that could be risk factor. But when I ever I go to the specialist they keep tell to lose weight but it a up hill battle with PCOS as so difficult to shift the weight and keep it off.   I been have trying to convince for the last 4yrs naturally but nothing.

I've  just came back from the GY who advise me me you need to lose more weight before they can help.    Thought is this a joke .. I all ready lost the 10% bodyweight (2st) which as ask for, but that not good enough and this angered me. I haven'trying had period in 14mthsi would of expected that would some test or even check under th the hood, to make sure everything ok. But No hat if you have PCOS they will always tell you that you have to lose the weight first be for the can help.can get the help but for us .. it all about use having to lose the weight before they can help.   I just make me feel so helpless, as all I want to be is normal and to have a period, to be able to convice. .... Sorry about the rant.

I was diagnosed with pcos only in the last year or so, which was after I had reached a healthy weight, conceived (accidentally), and gained back a lot of that weight. It really sucked knowing I wasn't normal but I wasn't looking to have kids, so not getting a period wasn't on top of my list anyway. Now that I've lost weight once again in a healthy way, I'm keeping it off and trying to have a baby, when the counter part is ready.

My point is, it is a weight thing. The human body is weird enough to think that if you can't outrun nature, how can you protect your offspring and continue humanity? Same with being too thin, you can't conceive. Metformin is supposed to help regulate blood sugar, which can help with weight, thereby lessening the effects of pcos, which is intensified by the weight it increases. Nasty cycle.

Best way to get out of it is to find a labour intensive job, like Costco food court (sounds ridiculous, but it's true!) to help you lose the weight while working. It was like being paid to workout! Keep it off by not dieting yourself, but by drinking a lot of water, and learning to tell yourself, 'hey, I'm not hungry, I'm content'. Have small desserts, morning is the best time for this as you have he whole day to work it off. This will make you feel more fulfilled by the evening.
