PCOS pain and tests

I have been going back and forth to my doctors for the last 6 months with pain in my lower right abdomen. It started with a dull ache in this area which has gradually got worse. First i couldn't lay down on my back without getting a sharp pain in my abdomen, then it was when i lay on my belly or side, and now i am in pain most of the day. Mainly it is a dull pain which is there most of the time and other times it is a sharp, almost stabbing pain (which reminds me of the pain i had similar to when i had an appendicitis). After having a pelvic ultrasound, which only showed one follicle on my right ovary, my doctor asked me what i believed the pain is caused by. I mentioned PCOS as it has been mentioned in the past but never followed up and also runs in my family. She took some blood for testing for PCOS.

How reliable are blood tests for PCOS?

Is pain a common symptom of PCOS?

Hey I'm 18 too and was told last year that I had pcos from a blood test and looking at my symptoms. Although they told me, nothing was ever done about it so I spoke to a new doctor today (had to change due to me movig to university) and he wasn't happy that it had just been left. I am getting referred to the gynecologist so I'm pretty happy that it's being followed up on now. Pain can be an issue I think, I had appendicitis a couple of years ago too and I occasionally get a sharp stabbing pain that was similar to the pain I had when I had appendicitis. I dont have a constant pain though, it just comes and goes.

Hi there, I am also experiencing this. What is PCOS!? I am having a smear test on Friday but also haven't had appendicitis which is what I am afraid of.

Appendicitis has nothing to do with pcos so you dont have to worry about that at all, It was just a good way for me to personally compare some of the pain I had experienced. I also wouldn't worry because a smear test isn't something that would diagnose appendicitis so your doctor obviously does not feel that your pain is being caused my your appendix

pcos is when you get small cysts on your ovaries mainly because of a hormone imbalance, this can cause women to have problems with their periods (irregular or just completely absent). Some other symptoms are thinning of hair, hair on face, acne, overweight/difficulty to lose weight. Some people could have all of the symptoms whereas other people might only have the cysts on their ovaries, it just depends

Reading that is exactly what I'm going through. I have all those symptoms a pain which more like an ache in my sides and back and pelvic area. Also groin pain? I also am bleeding slightly after sex and have bloody discharge have you experienced this?

Yeah groin pain can be a symptom too, I've never personally experienced the bleeding that you are talking about though, but other people may have experienced it
