pcos weight problems?!?!

I have had the symptoms since I was about 14/15 but never noticed, I'm 17 I now. I have typical pcos symptoms (unwanted hair, very irregular or no periods, weight loss), the hair doesn't bother me as that can easily be sorted and the period thing can be as well with pills.

my problem is the weight. Before the pcos kicked in I was around 8 and a half stone, now that it's kicked in I'm 12-13 stone. I've put so much weight on the past 2 nearly 3 years. The sudden weight gain literally made me so depressed, I refused to eat, go out, I couldn't even go to school because I was so depressed. It's impacted my social life, my self confidence (I had none to begin with really), it's even impacting my relationship. I've been with my boyfriend nearly 4 years and I'm too body conscious due to the sudden severe stretchmarks that have now covered my thighs boobs hips and arms.

has anyone come across a medication or a easy way to shift this unwanted weight? I'm in college and do not have a job so I can't afford much and I do not like asking my parents.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any is help is truly appreciated.

    Hi Chloe smile

I'm the exact same, I'm 19 now and still struggling with it. i feel so embarrassed when I go out, I've also got bipolar so the pills for that make me gain even more rolleyes. What worked for me was shakes although it's not a sustainable diet it's what I had done for a week and lost 5lbs. I stopped because i have no will power whatsoever though aha.

It's soo much harder to lose it when you have pcos I gained around 5stone in 3 years. Just try to cut your meals right down and stay away from sugar so swap to diet drinks etc. it's difficult because you always hear the same thing from everyone like the doctor and that but sugar is the main thing I think put weight on me, and stay away from the protein shakes like maxi tone if you're not exercising it'll just bulk you up.

Hope this has helped a bit, any questions about pcos I'm happy to help if I can smile and I hope that you start feeling better about yourself, I know how hard it is when you feel so down. x

I generally hate going out, I just hide under super baggy tops and jumpers and I feel the constant need to 'suck' my stomach in when I go out to college.

I drink mainly water or those naked smoothie drinks, I rarely drink fizzy drinks. I have been cutting down on the all the crap and been eating healthier meals... as far as exercise, I walk everywhere I possibly can and i do things like squats, sit ups and other things like that when I can as I share a room with 2 girls and there's 6 people living in my house so it's harder for me to work out because they look at me and I can tell they'r judging me.

If I start to diet my house suddenly fills up with chocolate and my diet goes out the windows haha.

      Thanks for your help :D

my doctor told me she won't give me any medication as I'm only 17 and I can diet and exercise. my family has always struggled with weight loss so with already struggling with weight loss an having pcos it almost feels impossible for me to lose it. my doctor said the only time she will put me on medication is if I tell her me and my boyfriend are trying for a baby but we're only 17, I don't think my parents will be too pleased haha!

I wish I could join a gym but I just cannot afford it, I used to go with my mom but she cancelled her membership due to knee operations. my college have a gym I can use but I don't really want to use the gym there as I do not live close to the college so its frustrating to try and find efficient ways to lose weight sad

      Thanks for your help :D

you need to cut out the bad carbs (white bread, pasta, pastry, etc etc), cut out sugar, processed food. eat healthy, fruit, vege, meat, cut out all junk food basically and you will notice a difference. exercise, exercise, exercise and honestly you will notice a difference. I too have PCOS and have had it for 14 years so know a good bit about it by now and diet and exercise is the main thing. good luck smile
