Pedunculated cervical necrotic fibroid, watery, smelly discharge. Degenerating fibroid.

Hi all,

I wanted to post my experience with fibroids and what I went through in hopes it someday helps someone in the future. I am 37 years old and I've had my tubes tied for 6 years now. After getting that done, I stopped taking bc since I didnt' need it any longer. But I did notice my periods got heavier and my cramps got worse as the years went by. I thought it was my normal period since I had been without it when I was on the mirena. Within the last year though my periods got a whole lot worse. Soaking through pads within an hour on my heaviest days and taking non-stop tylenol for the painful cramps. But then it would go and I would forget all about it until the following cycle when I had to deal with it again. On Monday Sept 9, 2020 after going through a particular awful period and then having heavy brown mucus discharge for a week, I felt pressure in my vaginal opening. I felt a hard lump and was able to push it in with my finger a little. I googled and for a few days I thought I might have developed a uterine prolapse. I set my appointment to have it checked out. It wasn't always at the opening. Sometimes it would go back into the vaginal walls. Wednesday morning as I am showering I feel it again. This time I get a mirror and see what it is. If you were to look up red degeneration of fibroid you would see what I saw at my opening. It was scary. My guess is it was about 4-5cm round. I go in to the doctor and he confirms it is a fibroid ( I didn't even know I had them at the time) Ultrasound says I have 3 in my uterus, but can't find the one hanging, coming out of my cervix. But since we both saw it the doctor wanted to put me in surgery for removal the following week. I was scared because surgery is a scary thing to go through, but I wanted it out. As I am waiting for surgery day to come, my discharge became extremely smelly. It smelled like something died inside me. I stopped going to work for 3 days to deal with the craziness. I was so bloated, felt so much pressure in my uterus and vaginal area. Even my lower back was in so much pain. And the smell!! so embarrassing. The doctor had come back with news that the ultrasound looked normal and that my wet prep came back negative. I had no infection. But something was dead inside me and I was scared it would turn into an infection. Our bodies are so miraculous sometimes. So after having very watery light pink sometimes yellow discharge for a whole week, a long with my period, the day before surgery I was on the toilet and felt a large clot come out. It mucked up the toilet water with blood and I wasn't able to see the fibroid, but after that day I no longer felt the pressure from it and I wasn't able to push it to the opening anymore. I called to cancel the surgery. And the death smell dissipated slowly the next 2 days. For the next week I felt more normal down there. Less discharge. No smell. Went to my doc today for a follow up and he wasn't able to find it any longer. Turns out it naturally degenerated and expelled. Now I just need to take care of myself and my other 3 fibroids all smaller than 4cm and inside my uterus. He is putting me on progestin pills to help with the heavy bleeding. Anything else I should look into? He did offer the IUD but I wanted to give pills a try first. I am feeling much better though.

PS on a sidenote. For the last 3 months I had been craving radishes like a mad woman. Every time I went to the grocery store I would buy two bunches and I would eat them as snacks. All by themselves. I had never experienced a craving so weird and out of the blue. Now I am wondering if my body was asking for something it needed from me. I could equate it to pregnancy cravings without being pregnant. Or maybe I was pregnant for a moment? and maybe that's why my fibroid degenerated?
