Pelvic Floor Exam - Still Sore

I had my first urogynocologist appt yesterday for various female issue (frequent UTIs, bladder inflammation, urinary frequency). She have me an internal pelvic floor exam and pushed on various sections of the vaginal muscles to see where I had pain or pressure. The end results was that I require pelvic floor therapy as I have areas of weakness. She then took a clean urine sample directly from my bladder. I was fine after the appointment, but later in the day and then today I have been having some vaginal soreness - it feels like after I have sex without lubrication. Sore! Is this normal from all of her pushing on the vagina muscles? I am a little afraid of having pelvic floor therapy if I am going to feel this way after every session. Has anyone else had pelvic floor exam soreness and or therapy soreness?

Hi Jen, Yes they can be pretty rough down there. I had a Pap test about 5 years ago with my male urogyne and it hurt like hell -I almost howled out loud!
When I had a "clean catch" with a catheter last month it hurt for several days.
I had PFD therapy years ago and it wasn't too bad but she was a real old pro -now retired -unless you live in central Illinois where she moved.
Probably just curling up with a heating pad and a nice meditation tape will help - maybe a warm-hot bath?

Thanks for your words of encouragement! I am heading to bed and hoping I'm less sore tomorrow. I'm in New Jersey so wouldn't be able to access your pro therapist 😃 Just somedays feel a little down as there always seems to be soreness or pain coming from one area or another down there...

Hello! I had pelvic floor therapy last year for similar issues and it worked wonders for me, I hope your results are as good. That being said, I was a tiny bit sore after the first few sessions. My doctor recommended Replense vaginal moisturizer and it made a big difference, ask yours if that or a similar product might help. I think it also just got easier with each session. It's like any time you try a new exercise-your pelvic floor will get used to it just like any other muscle group. Good luck!

Thank you Amanda for your advice! I will look into getting the Replens (I already take the probiotic version). Believe it or not, I am still sore. Interesting thing is that it calms overnight and then gets worse during the day. I am starting to think that I have provoked vulvodynia because I had this same feeling after sex. In addition, sitting makes it way worse. It would make sense that the extensive pelvic exam brought it on as well. I am going to mention it to my urogyn - but reading up on it -it seems that pelvic floor therapy helps that as well. 😃

Did you ever get relief from Pelvic floor therapy? I am on my 5th week and and it still is not better. Pain in the rectum, and urethra area. Pressure after I urinate. Have had every test in the book and nothing has been found except for internal hemmroids.
