Pelvic Tilt and not leg length discrepancy

I have today attended at my Health Club to see a coach who specialises in exercise and rehabilitation.  I have a right anterior pelvic tilt.  Eg "if you were to take two pieces of string, of equal length and place them onto a wire hanger that dipped to the right hand side. Although the string is of equal length, the string to the right hand side would appear longer":I was hoping that the coach would give me some exercises to strengthen and correct.  However, she advised that any strengthening exercises, whilst the pelvis is tilted, would merely strengthen the tilt! Instead, she recommended that I a see a Chiropractor. Fortunately, I have a brilliant Chiro who has confirmed that he will be able to straighten my pelvis. In the meantime, whilst in a corridor, I was given exercises to help with balance. I had to walk forward,as if on a tightrope, one foot in front of the other, with good posture, and then walk backwards, again as if on a tightrope. Whilst still in the corridor, I was told to walk straight ahead but  on tiptoe forwards and backwards.  These exercises really need to be carried out in a corridor because, several times, I lost my balance and the wall prevented me from falling. I was also told that the only activity I could take in the pool was to walk forwards and then backwards. Again, this was for balance and not strenthening.

Of course, you need to carry out your physio in order to strengthen muscles. However, if like me, you have a pelvic tilt and your leg lengths are equal, do not progress, after twelve weeks, to the more demanding exercises. Get that tilt corrected first.

I have an appointment to see my Chiro next Tuesday and shall let you all know how I progress.

Whilst at the club, I saw several members who remarked on how well I looked and that the pain, that had dragged me down for so long, had finally, left my face.  A real booster!

I was told by the coach that my body was probably over compensating. But my chiropractor who is also a sports therapist, will be able to give me definite advice along with exercises, if any, to carry out. I am seeing him next Tuesday evening and I shall let you know what he says. Apparently, there are a lot of people who think they have a longer or shorter leg when, in fact, the problem is a pelvic tilt. My Consultant pointed this out on my X Ray. The tilt is on the right hand side which makes my right leg appear longer. But to align my knees, I have to raise the right leg which is proof that my leg is not longer.

I have also measured down from the hip prosthesis and leg lengths are exact.

As promised, I shall let you know.

I'm sorry if I mislead you. I do still suffer pain, especially after sitting . But, in comparison to the agony, within both hips, caused by osteoarthritis, what I feel now is like "Noddy in Toy Land". And I'm pretty sure that , with the correct help, and a positive outlook, I shall, one day, pretty soon, be able to take my Granchildren to the park to feed the tame squirrels and to dance, once more, in my red heeled 👠

      Take Care,

      Maureen ??

      Hi Hun,

My appointment is next Tuesday evening 31st Jan. My Chiro works from three clinics and the most convenient for me is at Clapham Common. I probably won't be home until late but shall promise to let you know what he says and does. I don't have a Trendelburgh gate but I do have trouble with balance. I feel as if I am being thrown over to my right hand side. I have been carrying out advanced exercises which actually made it worse and now I know why. The exercises were strengthening the tilt.

I promise to get back to you, prob Wednesday 1st Feb. In the meantime, I shall be thinking of you.

      Love Maureen x

No pelvic tilt here. I have enough other things to be going on with! But I just wanted to say that you sound a lot more positive today. Are you feeling a bit happier? I hope so!

Yes, I am Beth. The senior partner of my firm has suggested that rather than retire, I consider taking a year's sabbatical. I honestly don't know which road to take and there is a great deal, financially, to consider. Everyone from this forum was so very kind and rather than look at the negatives, I reversed my way of thinking to the positives.

I hope I can help others in the same manner because you are all pretty amazing.

      Xxx
