Penis rash from last two months. Really scared :(

Posted , 10 users are following.

I have noticed this pink rash on penis glans 2 months ago. Initially I thought it will go away on its own

but after few weeks it didn't go away. instead a new rash or lesion type thing started to grow. after that i visited a dermatologist he gave me some medicines for both bacterial and fungal infection. it's been 2 weeks I'm taking these medicines and applying cream on it so far there is no change.

As in one of the photo you can see at the base of glans there was scaly skin formed.

only that skin is smoothened in two weeks. everything else is as it is.

Also 4-5 days ago one more lesion appeared it was burning a lot and also itching. with cream it has soothed but not completely gone.

what exactly is this? has anybody had this? how did you got rid of it? I'm so scared of it being penile cancer.

I'm thinking of using CBD oil or RSO oil(if i get it) now. has anyone used cannabis oil for penis rashes? what was the result?

Okay, the best person to help you is the dermatologist you have seen.

Continue to use the medications as directed. Contact the dermatologist and update them on what you have going on now.

It is likely you may need to try other medications until the right one is found to deal with what you actually have going on.

DO NOT simply try something else such as the oils you mention - it is totally unpredictable what the reaction would be if you applied anything that you were not prescribed, and, could make your penile skin problems much worse

      Thank you for suggestion.

I already visited another dermatologist n he gave me some strong antifungal tablets n miconazole cream. i also took a blood test for herpes (as suggested by dermatologist) the reports will come in 2-3 days.

I'm taking the medicines n applying the cream from 1 day n noticed a little change, hopefully this works for me..

So, work with this dermatologist until this is sorted for you. Use the medication as directed, often topical applications need to be used for 2 weeks to judge whether the are going to bring improvement or not.

Today I got the result of my blood test and herpes test. I showed them to my dermatologist.

He said blood test is normal and Herpes test is also normal. He told me keep using the miconazole cream for 2 more weeks and if the problem don't resolve or improve then biopsy needs to be done.

So far from last 7 days of using miconazole I've notice a little improvement with the dryness of the skin but no change with the red/pink patch. Hopefully it gets better in 2 weeks.

    I'm scared of biopsy.

Has anyone done it before? Does it pain? Does it leave any scar on penis after biopsy?

Biopsy is not a problem - it is like getting an injection, slightly painful to start with but nothing to be concerned about - simply keep it clean and it will fully heal in 4 to 8 days

Right now I'm cleaning it twice a day with lukewarm water. once during shower in the morning n second before going to bed. after cleaning with water, I try to make it completely dry by slowly dabbing cotton on it so that all the moisture is removed.

I apply miconazole after cleaning, as told by my dermatologist.

I'm also abstaining from masturbation, does that help in healing?

When it's dry it is quite difficult to see it, but when i apply cream or oil on it then it shows that bright pink colour.

    • Edited

Yes, avoiding masturbation for as long as you can is most helpful ...

The pink/red rash has become very faint now.

but my glans skin is very dry n kind of scaly.

what is this? It doesn't itch or anything but its very dry n scaly n kind of peeling. 😟

Your penile skin is in a very unhealthy state - it would be best for you to work with one of the Dermatologists that you have had contact with.

The process of getting your skin back to a healthy state could take an extended period of months.

A correct strength steroid ointment would greatly help this process and a dermatologist would be the ideal specialist to determine the best one to use

Yesterday during shower when i was cleaning it, that part of skin peeled off completely on its own.

2 days before that i kept my penis completely dry and clean as you always suggest to everyone. at the end of two days at night the skin looked like that in above photos. I got scared and applied miconazole cream and went to bed. next morning during shower when i was cleaning, the skin peeled off on its own.

I think the fungal infection is gone because of keeping it dry and later I applied miconazole.

Anyway the red patch is still there sometimes it is faint and sometimes it is dark red, i think dark red is usually in the morning cuz of morning erection.

I have appointment with dermatologist on next Monday. Till, then I will just keep it dry n clean. my dermatologist told me to keep using miconazole till Monday but i don't think it's helping at all for that red patch.

It's been over a month I'm using different antifungal creams. Initially suggested by first dermatologist and then this current one I'm seeing these creams had made no difference to red patch at all.

      Hope it get resolved soon.

      Hey wee_Dugie

I went to urologist a month ago to show my hemorrhoid and I also showed him my penis rash. He prescribed me "clobetasol propionate + clotrimazole + neomycin sulphate cream". I used this cream for 14 days and then stopped for 1 week and then again used for 1 week. but so far there is no change in the rash.

how long does it take for steroid creams to get rid of rashes?

are there any side effects of steroid cream using long term?

Also sometimes my glans gets very dry.

looks like this nightmare is not ending for me anytime soon. 😣😣

In terms of : " how long does it take for steroid creams to get rid of rashes " this is very dependant on what the root cause of the issue is, and, what is is going on that may reduce the effectiveness of steroid application.

Using for 1 or even 2 weeks will give no beneficial impact whatsoever.

First you need to recognise that damaged penile skin is very unlike skin elsewhere on the body.

This means the conditions need to be right for the repair process to get underway, and again, as I say, if anything interferes with this repair, let alone healing, will not take place.

You need to conclude the use of the other medications then continue with clobetasol - this needs to be applied as directed on the numbers of days (twice / once daily whatever / every other day, and so on) it needs to be rubbed well in to the skin, otherwise again, you risk getting no beneficial impact of it.

In terms of time, initial repair I would suggest can take anywhere between a matter of days, but more likely, weeks, and, depending on the circumstances, you may see little beneficial impact for 3 months or even more.

It is ONLY when you get the application of the clobetasol beginning to show beneficial results that the healing process will even begin.

Again, this means consistently having the right conditions in place, and, applying the clobetasol correctly everyday, particularly in the early repair stage.

Is the Is the clobetasol an opaque / clear ointment or a white cream version?

I have used clobetasol since early 2011, no side effects as long as you are not applying it to healthy skin

Clobetasol I was prescribed is a white cream.

From last 3 days I'm applying it twice a day( morning and evening).

I always take a little cream and apply on the rash and then rub it gently with my finger for 2 mins and then let it dry for couple of more minutes.

I try not apply it on healthy skin around the rash but it is difficult to control that. Other than that i don't use clobetasol anywhere on my penis or body.

I was thinking of using it for a 4-6 weeks daily so wanted to be sure as clobetasol is a steroid cream.

Your answer helped me. Thank you.

The Clobetasol was prescribed by the Urologist? Have they asked you to go back and see them after a few weeks or in 2 or 3 months ..... ?

You are thinking of perhaps using it for 4 to 6 weeks - how long were you told to use it?

You should always use medications as you are directed for as long as it is stated you should use then for.

As I have explained, simply stopping using something after a period of weeks you have determined for yourself, rather than a medical professional determines for you, can give a very false impression of what is going on.

The warning I would give is that if you do not get the use of medication right and regularly consult with the urologist or dermatologist what you have going on can quite easily turn into a very long-term issue.

It is now in the relatively early stages of this that healing and return to health needs to be taking place.

My suggestion would be that it is normally a Dermatologist that has a better understanding of this

Yeah, the urologist first told me to use it for 10 days(twice a day). ( I used it for 14 days no change)

I went to him after 2 weeks he told me to use it for more 5-7 days and prescribed me cetirizine tablets for 10 days (Probably for histamine related redness).

But after a month there is no change in the rash.

As I was sceptical about using the steroid cream for long time. So, after first 2 weeks I didn't use the cream in third week. So I thought may be I didn't use the medications properly.

Even after a month the rash did not show any change. I thought may be I will take a full 4 week treatment of clobetasol and see what happens. (I decided that by myself, you are right there)

Yep you are right this could turn into something long term issue, if I keep jumping on medicines.( I don't usually act like this but this rash has causing me lot of mental troubles)

I will find a dermatologist and see what he says.

      Thank you for your help.

      An update on my condition,

I went to the third dermatologist, he referred me to another senior dermatologist from another city.

Yesterday I visited him. This senior dermatologist took a very good look at my rash. His initial diagnosis was it is "circinate balanitis". He prescribed me "Tacrolimus 0.03% cream n zinc sulphate tablets" for 30 days.

he told me to apply the cream just once a day.

He also said "if after 30 days the rash doesn't go away, then we need to do biopsy."

I hope tacrolimus cream will get rid of this. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

      Thanks for the further information.

Hopefully this latest treatment will resolve it for you.

Update in 4 to 5 weeks perhaps, or after you have biopsy results if that is required

You did mention an HSV test but truly doesnt look anything like that, did they do a full panel and check for chlamydia and gonorrhea as well?

I certainly hope its not and all works out for the best for you.

For me the dermatologist went right to biopsy right away even though they claimed it was more than likely eczema or lichen planus from the start. Not to scare you as they did me but, the people in the office i went to dont take chances and wait on lesions in this area and are trained to treat any lesion as a cancer until proven otherwise via biopsy.

Im not a doctor as you may noticed from my post but yours looks more like the standard pics of eczema or lichen planus that ive seen. A biopsy will confirm those. Also many similar pics in what your last derm said with circinate balantis. If it is LP there is no cure, yet some creams have helped some people and as for others it can last from a couple months to 18 months on avg according to my dermatologist. I was told stress and friction are triggers among many other things for a LP diagnosis. From what i am reading you have dealt with this for a while, I think you would sleep better knowing.

    • Posted

No, they didn't do any test for Chlamydia n gonorrhoea.

I know there are many of these lesions looks very similar. Can't rule out anything. Yeah, it could be LS, LP, circinate balanitis or zoon's anything.

As far the literature n research papers I read. They have treated all the above mentioned conditions with topical creams.

      Also,

I am using tacrolimus for about 6 days now. I have notice a slight change in the rash it has become little fainter. n its edges are very slightly reduced.

So I'm hoping it will resolve by the end of one month.

Even if i need do the biopsy, luckily my rash is not very big. So i think they will take out whole rash during the biopsy.

      Hope everything works out 😃
