Hi guys.

I have General anxiety disorder with horrible physical symptoms. I'm In a new job and I've fightened people with my symptoms. No one has said anything as yet.

I'm on sertraline now have been for four/five weeks my anxiety has eased but today it was bad no physical symptoms. Thank god. I'm taking propanolo to ease symptoms but it's make my eyes dilate and I look strange.

Just want to hear from anyone who's now free of physical symptoms. I shake, turn a funny shade of bright red, look strange. Freeze like a rabbit caught in headlights. My voice breaks etc

How long will need to be taking sertraline before I see full benefits.

I'm thinking of telling both managers at work has anyone done this?

I feel for you! Its so hard to function a) with anxiety disorder and b) while getting side effects of sertraline. Ive been on propranalol and sertraline for 5 months and have only recently started to feel good (now on 150mg.) i had a month of work. And went back too soon, really struggled and now i have no work (been there 10 yrs but not on contract but the boss has no empathy so no great surprise shes stopped offering me work). I didnt tell her what i had been off with but im sure it got back to her. So its hard to say what you should do...a normal person would show empathy and be supportive... But well done to you for trying to cope with the anxiety, the meds and a new job. Im currently working for myself and dont intend to waste any more of my effort working for idiots lol. Bare with the sertraline, it will work once youve found your dose and settled on it and dont be too hard on yourself, this can happen to anyone and youre doing well trying to cope as best you can.

Thank you Julie. People just don't understand mental illness. I'm working on being self employed myself lol sick of working for others who don't give a sh*t about you. I'm also going to do some studying again as I'm interested in helping others with mental health issues, once I'm fully recovered. So wish I could give up work.. will see how I get on just need meds to fully kick in so I can function.

You really need to talk to your doctor frankly and tell him/her your symptoms and concerns.

You may be having adverse side effects to one or a combination of drugs.

    Good luck.

It's not the medication I'm on. I have GAD and was having this long before I started medication.

If it is affecting your performance then you need to speak to your manager. All employers in the UK are obliged to provide reasonable adjustment for your condition otherwise they are discriminating against you.

Does anyone in the US have success getting modifications in the workplace for mental illness? I'm retired. But found self-employment and working with relatives helpful.

There should be some kind of protection for people who want to work, but struggle with symptoms.
