People who have had the Mona Lisa Procedure

I had my first Mona Lisa treatment today. I posted several weeks ago that I would tell how it went. There have been a few others who posted their experience with this procedure, but their comments were buried in other discussions and harder to find. I thought this new discussion would make it much easier for those who are still deciding whether to have the procedure or not.

I had my second Mona Lisa on May 12. The Dr used level one power again since she said everything looked pretty darn good. She didn't even use the numbing gel and it was fine. No pain. I am now almost three days out and starting to feel a little itchy, I suppose from healing. I still felt unchanged after the first one so hope I feel different soon. The Dr. said 95% of her patients feel improvement between the second and third treatment.  I have also just been diagnosed with Pudenal Neuralgia and that can cause vaginal and vulvar pain and burning. Getting a nerve block on Wednesday. If that works maybe I will be able to tell one condition from the other. Time will tell. After the first treatment I got a yeast infection and didn't realize it right away since I read Mona LIsa also caused itching for a while. Hope to avoid that this time . Lots of variables going on.

It has been three weeks wince my second Mona Lisa Procedure. I can now say I am much improved !! The Dr. said 95% of her patients see the improvement between the second and third treatments abd she was right. It has been so long I had almost forgotten what normal feels like.  My Dr. also said that I may still need the Vagifem, but probably could get by  with less.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Has anyone reported that the ML hasn't helped on other threads? This is all very encouraging. You ladies with severe problems must be very, very happy to say the least. I still don't understand the issue of the procedure not being covered by insurance because its use is supposedly to improve sex. What is Viagra for? No use at all other than to enable a man to have it, so why does insurance cover that? I haven't been back home long enough to set up a doctor's appt., but I will to discuss the issue. I can't believe there would be any gyn that hadn't heard of it. If so I would not have much faith in that doctor's knowledge in general.

Have your doctors said the procedure has to be repeated after a certain amount of time? I think laser treatment of facial skin has to, but maybe not?

It has to be repeated, but only one treatment not three, after about 8 months to a year. This has not made me feel like I was 20 years old again, but much much better. It was approved by the FDA for increasing  vaginal moisture. The approval did not include better sex, or fewer UTI's etc. It takes forever to get something like this covered by insurance. I think all sorts of clinical trials for each usage have to be done and they take years.

I'm not clear on what you are saying. My understanding was the procedure consisted of three treatments in all. My question was would the procedure have to be repeated after a certain number of years.

Are you saying there are only two treatments necessary? Or is that just in your case? If that's the case it becomes more affordable for some women.

I had three treatments and then was told I could expect to come once a year after that for a treatment… It's additional money. was never told you could only have two treatment

You need three treatments to start. Then every year it has to be repeated but only as one treatment, not three.  Is that clear? It is kind of a "tune up".

I would imagine it is the cost of one treatment, which in my case is $500, unless the price changes  a year from now. I will ask when I get the appt a year from now.

Are the yearly treatments cheaper? Also why do you still need the vagifem?

Sorry i see half my question is answered above

I will be gradually tapering off the Vagifem. I wanted to wait for the Mona Lisa treatments to start working fully. I am just about at that point now at half way between the 2nd and 3rd treatment.

Just had my second Mona Lisa treatment yesterday. This time was so easy...maybe knowing what to expect helped?? I feel so good!!! This is truly life changing. Never expected results like this. I was so good after the 1st treatment already😍😍😍!

I have an appt for my once a year "tune-up" on April 4th. The Dr said a person can come back as symptoms require but no sooner than 6 months after the 3rd treatment. She is so booked up, she told me to plan in advance. I am still fine but once in awhile feel it is wearing off. I could probably wait another month or two, but she had an opening on April 4th. I would rather not get burny and itchy and then have to  wait two months for an appt.

Can I ask charge for tuneup. My doctor says 500 now wants 1000. Someone on this thread said Medicare is covering but don't find that to be true

      Hi Nancyo

I think she said that her doctor shared that Medicare would be covering ML but not for a few months yet.....then hopefully other insurance companies will cover as well depending on the insurance company.  I have a feeling it will be awhile...... so until that time comes I will continue the Vagifem and pray it will continue to help.  The Vagifem is expensive at least for me and my insurance.  It is the same price as the generic Yuvafem.  May have to go through Canada Pharmacy.  I am in the US.

Cleveland Clinic still charges $500. I have ito pay prior to the procedure as not covered on Medicare. So I paid for my April 4th appointment. I looked on the medicare website and all it said was a person cannot get info on what is covered unless they have a billing code number. I will ask at my appointment if they know anything more about coverage.

      Thanks Jeanne appreciate info.

Hope this is eventually covered for all women who suffer

thanks for the update. I have an appt on the 23rd for a consult. I can't live this way much longer. I think the yuvafem is giving me chronic yeast infections in my panty line. Which worries me because I can't get it cleared up and I don't think the mona lisa is an option until I'm clear. Fell trapped

Hi Donna, Thanks for asking! Still 95% cured, but still get an occasional bladder irritation (frequency). Usually I can attribute it to my diet (too much sugar, caffeine), but I've found just once or twice with my Estrace cream and I'm good again👍🏻. Saw my Gyn in Jan for my yearly, and she said you usually don't need to come back until a year after your last treatment. Overall, the best money I've ever spent😍
