People who have had the Mona Lisa Procedure

Posted , 31 users are following.

I had my first Mona Lisa treatment today. I posted several weeks ago that I would tell how it went. There have been a few others who posted their experience with this procedure, but their comments were buried in other discussions and harder to find. I thought this new discussion would make it much easier for those who are still deciding whether to have the procedure or not.

Ladies, I have just wandered around the internet and stumbled upon another treatment. I think the site was realself. The procedure is called Thermiva. Has anyone heard of it? I was reading people's comments re their Mona Lisa results and someone mentioned having had the Thermiva. Apparently it uses radiofrequency heat instead of laser and is supposedly less costly. I will try starting a new discussion to ask if anyone has any info or had the treatment itself. The most startling difference stated on one comparison site said Mona Lisa lasts only 40-60 days which sounds far fetched to me as no one on this site has said that. Another difference was Mona Lisa could not be used externally, but people have said they have had outer areas treated so that doesn't sound right either. There is so much info online now. When I first searched for info on Mona Lisa all I came up with was from Italy. There is now a lot!

The internet is full of bad information. Take it fron us who actually have had the Mona Lisa. It CAN be done on the outside. I have had that done to me so YES. It lasts up to a year. My Dr. said 8-12 months but it depends on the person. NEVER did she say 40-60 days. That is the length of time between treatments.

Be advised this is not a fast cure. I have only had two treatments since March with 6-7 weeks between. You may not notice a dramatic difference. It is a very slow process of tissue regeneration. You must be patient.

Look at the sources on the internet. Where are these stories coming from? I could buy a internet domain and put up whatever "facts" I want to. Stick with reliable facts and not hearsay.

jean, if you go to the realself site you will see it is a combination of both patient and doctor comments. The patient comments are similar to what I have read here. The big difference between that site and this is doctor input, but that also means essentially a place where they can attract patients to their own practices.

Here is what one doctor said about the different types of treatment:

"There are many different treatments for vaginal rejunevation. First, I don't like the term vaginal rejuvenation. The specific condition should be treated and use the best modality for it.

Mona Lisa Touch is a CO2 fractional laser which actually treats the atrophic vagina and improves the tissue, thereby relieving vaginal dryness and pain with sex. There are several other off label uses where the physican may offer it's use. The Mona Lisa Touch is the only CO2 fractional laser specifically designed for this. Femilift is another co2 laser, but is more similar to the standard fractional lasers and not specifically designed for treating the vagina.

Intimalase is a UYAG laser, again different design. ThemiVa is a radiofrequency machine which delivers heat for vaginal contouring and not to treat atrophic vaginal tisse.

Bottom line, know what you need and know where to go to get it "

This sounds like valid info to me. However, there is also info on the site where doctors seem to be essentially advertising procedures they do. Presumably women will make educated decisions by gathering as much info as they can both from medical people and those women who have problems and have had various treatments in an attempt to solve them. I'm still in the gathering stage, have been pretty convinced that ML is the way to go, but obviously it has not worked for some women. I had never jeard of Diva Laser, Theriva and Intimalase before going to realself, had you?

I only dream of being able to say that !  My treatment with yuvafem has regressed back to pain and burning. Feeling of UTI and now problems with yeast which I think can come from the hormones Ugh ! I'm going to a mona lisa consult on Feb 23rd and I'm terrified

      Hi Donna

i am so sorry to hear that the Yuvafem is not working for you.  Have you changed doctors for second opinion?  You are seeing a GYN doctor right? I am so sad that you have not been able to get the right help to get this under control and are suffering with this.  I hope you will find help with your appointment tomorrow about the Mona Lisa Touch.  Please let us all know what the doctor said.....and your thoughts about it.

    Hello all

I have been reading all the discussions about the Mona Lisa treatment with interest, as I have booked myself in for my first treatment next week. The only thing that concerns me is that it seems like maybe the pain on entry may or may not work, which is what I have the most problem with (and my husband of course). The gyno did say he could laser the outside but has also only had the laser for 10 weeks so it is early days for him. I am concidering changing my appointment till  I find out from others if this treament could work for me, and to maybe give him some more practice on others.

    Any thoughts on the subject.

Hi,if hes only been doing it 10 weeks,I would give him time to get more experianced. Thats what I would do anyway. Dont want to make things worse. Xx

Better to let him gain more experience. Have you researched what other options (if any) might be better for that specific problem? You could start a new discussion here and ask. The fact that the ML has not been done in this country very long means that there isn't any long term feedback. This thread is getting quite long, but didn't someone mention pain upon entry being a separate problem called Dyspareunia. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

THANK YOU so much for the information about pain on entry and putting a name to it . This is my most severe problem . I have only researched about atrophic vaginitis, I didn't know that what I have is a specific condition on its own . Maybe I can find some answers now

      Hi Mindy,

Since being on here 8 months ago, I did read about using dialators. So I investigated and purchsed a silicone dilator and all I can say it that it has helped me immensly. I used it initially each day, but now I use it when I think I might be having sex. I also use Replens as a viginal moisturizer during the day. I wonder how you got on?

I thought they might need some time to practice as well, but when you actually have it done, you realize there's not a lot of skill involved. Machine pretty much does it all. My Dr.does the outside each time, and that really helps. Can't stress enough how good it is to feel normal again. After a year, I had forgotten what it's like??????. Worth every penny!!!??????
