Peppermint oil...

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello all, I'm new and after some advice.

I've had IBS for years but recently I've had gastroenteritis and I have really bad bloating which isn't going away.

My GP advised I try peppermint oil, I bought some liquid today but I don't know how to use/take it... can anyone advice on taking this??

Many thanks.

Normally ppl take capsules, I can't imagine it's very nice as a liquid

Thanks for replying, I'm gonna give liquid a go and if it improves then I'll try capsuels

I take a cap before each meal.  It helps so much to sooth the acid burn I sometimes experience after a loose bm.  The caps have an extra slow disolving shell so stomach acid doesn't break it down so quickly -- this way the oil enters your digestive track and not in your stomach.  If it were me, I would not take the liquid.  May cause acid reflux and a strong taste in your mouth and be diluted by your stomach acid and not be as beneficial to your intestinals/colon.  I don't know.  Might want to check the net and with doc.

Thanks from replying, how long before food do you take it??

I'm on omeprazole 20mg for stomach acid too.

I take the cap after I eat.  You take omeprazole before you eat, right?  Not sure how those two should be taken.  Might want to do some net research.  Sorry don't have a real answer for you.

Are there no instructions for use either on the box, bottle or patient leaflet?
