Just been speaking to my brother about pain and arthritis. He has recently started taking turmeric tablets and says they help. Anyone know if it's ok to take this with steroids. They are an anti inflammatory,so just wondering if the 2 mix. Thanks for help as always.

    Hello Kathleen,

I’ve been adding turmeric and ginger to my smoothie every day. I didn’t experience any problems, and was able to get off pred after two years.

There was a programme on radio saying you were better off cooking natural turmeric with black pepper or having drinks with it rather than than buying supplements.

I’ve been having it in capsules twice a day and drinking lemon and ginger tea. I can’t say I feel much benefit and have stopped the turmeric now I have run out of the capsules. An Indian friend of mine said cooking frequently with turmeric can turn your teeth yellow, so I’m a bit cautious of that.

Kathleen, I take turmeric twice a day as a supplement. Really do not know how much good it is doing, but I am PMR pain free, so I have no desire to stop stop taking it. I have had no side effects from taking turmeric. Good luck, think positive and smile. ☺️

I have enlarged red blood cells, macrocytosis, and have had anaemia needing a blood transfusion, I take folic acid on a regular basis. I am not sure if it is anything to do with the PMR though.

    Hi kathleen21605

I drink turmeric tea with lemon and ginger. Apart from helping with inflammation it also help keep your body alkalinity balanced which also helps to alleviate inflammation..

I know quite a few people who use turmeric in cooking and feel it helps their PMR pain. The supplements are a bit more of a problem - sometimes the capsules are too high a dose and cuse gastric upsets. But you can only try.

By the way, PMR is not an arthritis - it is a vasculitis. It affects blood vessels not joints.
