Perforated Eardrum

So, my boyfriend was diagonised with a perforated eardrum resulting from someone accidentally slapping on his left ear. We went to the GP and followed his instructions of care .i.e. no water and keep it clean and with no infections. After 2 weeks, we see the GP again and the GP reckons that the whole is gotten bigger. However, he has gained partial hearing and the pain is reduced as well. Therefore, is it a good sign or things are just getting much worse? Please advise us. 😊
