Peri menopause -possibly

Posted , 2 users are following.

i think I'm perimenopausal .

It may explain my always irregular cycle becoming even longer . i've never had regular periods but they have always lasted 3/4 days.

The cycle before now was 37 days followed by a normal for me period .

Am now on day 39 and there's no sign .

I'm in the fortunate group of women to have never had any pms . Basically every period ive ever had has been an (albeit dreaded&traumatic-related to ptsd )surprise which is a bit much since being prepared with period undies and the like for weeks when nothing happens can get difficult.

I have never used hormonal contraception & can't see myself needing to use hrt .

I guess this is a bit of a minor moan in comparison to what a lot of women go through but its on my mind right now..

    Hi,

Have you ever been told why you have irregular cycles? Has it ever been investigated? The more recent changes to your cycle may well be due to perimenopause but there may also be another reason. Stress, weight loss, PCOS, thyroid problems to name a few. Maybe worth tracking your period if you dont already. Some ladies have few symptoms and some unfortunately have a terrible time. Wishing you all the best,

hi & thanks very much for replying Finkyb

No, it's not something that I've sought help with since its only ever been a slight annoyance and i have'nt (ever) have any menstrual pain, heavy bleeding and have'nt ever wanted to become pregnant etc which are the reasons people would seek help.

Ive tracked my period for the past few years just out of interest and tried to make sense of why some cycles are much longer than others but it all remains a bit of a mystery to me .

Instinctively , i think its peri menopause and if it ends up being a case of cycles gradually getting longer with periods appearing after weeks of waiting /dreading until it eventually stops then that's easier than what many women have to cope with . If it does eventually cause problems then i'll make an appointment to have it looked into .

      Hi Ali,

I'm glad you aren't experiencing any further symptoms. Good idea to get further advice if any do develop as you mentioned. Keep tracking it as this will certainly help you to see if they are getting further apart. May be worth making a note of your bleeding pattern as well as this can often change during perimenopause. Number of days bleeding, heavy, light, spotting, clots etc. and do keep up with any cervical screening tests too.

      All the best,

      Finkyb
