Peri menopause with one ovary?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Now that I'm less than two weeks from having an ovary removed, I've started wondering how having a single ovary left may or may not affect peri menopause symptoms, periods, etc.  Do things really change much, or at all?

You know, it did not occur to me to start wondering about any changes until maybe a couple of days ago!  I feel like I'm losing my mind with all the peri symptoms and suddenly just thought, hey, I'll only have one ovary!  If nothing else, I'd love to regain some mental clarity.

I hear you. Today was challenging to say the least. Feeling all out of sorts, blah, dizzy, difficulty breathing, had a low grade fever in the afternoon. I pray it gets better after the ovary is out.

    hi elixabeth

ive also been wondering if i had my uterus removed and if necesassary my ovaries then are my symptoms going to get worse than they already are ?

im still having severe peri symptoms - im sure im in peri now

but will things improve or get worse.

most of my friends have removed their uterus and ovaries and each time we meet they say - got yours taken out ? theyve had no symptoms at all - having the time of their lives ! and here i am struggling to keep my head above water !!

We are experiencing the same kind of struggle for sure. My mom has always said that having a total hysterectomy was the best thing she ever did... she had a horrible time with perimenopause, worse in some ways than mine, but still had both ovaries when she had the hysterectomy at age 51.  I just turned 45 last week.  Hopefully, someone can tell us about navigating peri with one ovary.  In the meantime, take care and let's hope that things improve for us somehow!

You tend to think with having to of certain glands, and organs if they remove one, you will be ok, have you asked yet, or, are you too scared?? if this doesnt happen, would hae thought they would offer HRT! how would you feel about taking it?

I've been so focused on getting used to the idea of having the surgery that it just didn't occur to me to ask my gyn how things will go afterward.  She is very methodical, very step-by-step with everything, as in we will deal with what's next when the time comes.  In some ways, that seems like a good approach, but of course I just want to know it will all be okay and move on from there.  She doesn't give anything away... we know what we know at this point, that 's where we are now.

    Hi Liz

I stumbled upon your post about the one ovary. I'm wondering how are you doing with it? I'm in perimenopause now with one ovary and my symptons are horrible. I think with the one ovary is why it over the roof. How are you? I hope you get this post cause I know it's been awhile since you posted.

Hi Mary, I just found your message here.  My peri symptoms have been much worse with just one ovary.  However, my hormone levels are always "normal" when tested.  I had to have the ovary removed because CT scan and ultrasound testing showed something in it, but this turned out to be false.  After the surgery, the gyn said there was a floating fibroid shadowing it.  She took the ovary out anyway because it was discolored; my pathology results were benign.

Hi Liz so you dont have any ovaries now? My hormones are all over the place. I do believe because of the one ovary is why symptoms are so severe.
