Perimenopause?

I am 46 (47 in June) and the last 12 months my periods have been irregular, I can be late then miss one altogether then have a period for 2 weeks. In this time i have gained weight around my adomen and boobs. I had a hormone test last year which was ok. I had a sore left boob for a few days a few months ago and now i am getting stabbing pains in my left ovary area. My GP doesn't seem concerned and say's it's my age and to wait a few months. I went back last week and she's agreed to do my bloods again for Thyroid and hormones. I am worrying something else is going on but hoping if it was i would have deteriorated in 12 months.

i don't know weather your doctor told you but the hormone blood test isn't very good, I had it done last year and mine came back normal but the doctor said I am definitely in peri, periods all over, night sweats, severe health anxiety, which peri does cause, I have had nearly every test going, all normal, please try not to worry, you are right if it was anything sinister you would of known by now, I also get a lot of pain in the ovary are! It comes and goes xx

I will be 46 in June and your experiences sound similar to mine. My periods have been all over the place for the past year at least, probably longer (it takes me a while to notice these things!) The time in between can be anything from 20 days up to 40 days. The length from 4 days to 12 days. I've had ovary pain, night sweats, anxiety, the whole shooting match. Blood tests came back as normal. My doctor even sent me for an internal scan to make sure there was nothing sinister going on. All normal. I think this is just something most of us 40-somethings have to navigate which as much humour as we can muster (which isn't much, sometimes :-) )
