Perimenopause and anxiety

Posted , 8 users are following.

I'm new to the forum and I'm happy to know that I'm not going through this alone. I started with perimenopause at age 42 and now I'm 49 also having anxiety in the worst way. I'm trying not to focus too much but it's hard not to feel anxious. I'm at my moms house now. I feel safe when I'm around her. She's 71 years old and she's already been through it all. Before the perimenopause I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder many years ago. This is all for now.

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way, Michelle.

The anxiety is so terrifying, it makes everything so much worse. What symptoms are you feeling? And do you have any tips on how you deal with the panic/anxiety? I have this thing where if I feel anything strange (heart palpitations, shortness of breath) I immediately start spiraling and thinking something horrifying is about to happen. I'm trying really hard not to do it and to find strategies to stop doing this because it just makes everything 100 x's worse.

Have you been to the dr. and what have they said? I don't know if you read my post, but I lost my health insurance due to covid last year, so I'm in this state of not knowing if this is truly peri/meno or something worse like heart failure. I will feel fine one day, and then short of breath and heart palpitations the next. It's truly scary and I don'tknow what to do.

hello that's exactly how i feel, felt breathless today and shooting pains in breasts, makes me worry and that feeds anxiety making it worse!! have had so many unexplained ailments this year...weight gain, hair loss, tiredness, depression and only just realising maybe connected and peri? I'm 46 and thought too young but maybe not. And good to have some hope that all this is 'normal'

I hate that breathless feeling - it's so scary... I get so much anxiety when I feel that way, which makes everything worse. I fyou can, try to stop what you're doing, take a cold drink of water and breathe for as long as you can. I felt that way 2 days ago and I feel better today . I'm going to go to the dr/cardiologist just to make sure everything is okay with my heart. I'm 43 and am going through this, so it's definitely not too young. Everyone is different, and I think some of us have more sensitive systems. I'm the type of person who can't drink (2 sips and I'm drunk), over the counter drugs affect me right away (even things like dramamine and knock me out for 2 days), and I get motion sickness by just sitting in a car in the passenger sit for 10 minutes. So , I think we all have different systems that can be sensitive to any hormonal changes. I hope you feel better soon!
