Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,
I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.
My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.
Brief list of symptoms...
Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)
Brain Fog
Feeling detached and 'spaced out'
Weak and Shaky
Jelly Legs
Weak Fingers and Toes
Sensitive to light and sound
Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)
Light Headed
Light Dizziness
Easily tired out
Occasional Palpitations
Frequent urination (occasionally)
Anxious (more so than usual)
Brief History...
I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.
My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!
Is anybody experiencing anything similar?
Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

I was just wondering where you stand these days with the symptoms you described in your posts. Have you had any new testing, or diagnoses?
I'm in California and did a google search to find every symptom of yours match mine exactly. I've been to specialists including a neurologist and am now pending an appointment with Stanford University Memory Clinic to do more scans.
Feel like I'm in a tunnel and just a smidge of my former self after 9 months of brain fog, fatigue and spacey feeling.
Please post an update when you can.

oh bless you hun, the dizzy spells are so awful, propranolol maybe wont help with dizzy feeling at all I am sorry to say, its a beta blocker so will help with aniety and panic but dizzyness i dont think it will help that, I could be wrong...
i know how you feel as had all this, infact I had a strange day myself, I went out and thought why is everything blur, I was thinking maybe the AC in car had dried my contact lenses, or my peri dry eyes was bad today, then hours later I realised I had put wrong lenses in, i have two different strengths and put the highest in both eyes by mistake, made me feel dizzy and i thought oh no back to this... give B6 a try see if it helps you, its worked wonders for me... 😀... dont worry about the court sweetie, its not you on trial... your the witness so to speak, all the same I expect it will be on your mind, but after you will say to yourself, why did I worry about it.. ( honest)
B6 .... I dont know where you read the info you have..
but for peri menopause or menopause a lady needs from 100mg to 300mg daily depending on severity..
I have taken 150mg then 300mg daily and I am still standing 😃 more so than ever.. I think you need at least 100mg for it to benefit you during peri, and abit more in last part and full meno.. ...
B12 is good too these are the two B's peri ladies need the most for making energy etc etc etc..
two other ladies on here have said the B6 has improved them even after 4 days, so a good week to two will be the tester.. but i would take at least 100mg of B6.. take early in morning too, so your energy is for the day and not while your sleeping.. so to speak..
I found that the B6 150mg that i took for first month seemed to work really quick and I have lost half a stone too... 😀
it helps no end, you may still get the blip day but its nothing compared to everyday ... I am a different person, I get in car and off I go, and go out twice a week at night and chatter to people, before i didnt want to see anyone, I was becoming a recluse... ( not good) but now I feel great...
let me know how you get on with the b6 as I have been researching this for a while and love to know how you get on...

just a reminder snippet.. I have gone on this info and it works for me 😃
During menopause, mood swings are inevitable with estrogen fluctuations as the body ends its reproductive years. Vitamin B6 may be one answer to alleviating increased agitation, depression and anger. B vitamins are responsible for mood stabilization by controlling hormone production in the brain and regulating hormone levels.
*B6 declines as menopause sets in and mood swings become evident. Increasing this vitamin may give women the added boost they need to enjoy the golden years with a better mindset.
Supplementation
Supplementing with vitamin B6 is also a good option during menopause and can provide more rapid relief than diet alone. To avoid an imbalance that can result when one vitamin becomes deficient, Doses of 50 to 100 milligrams per day help promote general health and wellness. However, during the stress of menopause, your requirements for B6 may increase to as much as 300 milligrams per day, says Lieberman.

I take 150mg in the morning of vit B6 in one go, ( my tabs are 300mg but I split them in half) how much are you taking if your taking it morning and night ?
best to take when you get up so you feel the benefits during the day I would say...
not heard they affect sleep, but peri can make you have sleepless nights ..

yes I would certainly just take B6 in the morning, not at night, see how that goes for you, I restarted magnesium as the only thing I was getting was day time hot flushes .. which had stopped for years... and its only a few days I have restarted magnesium but the day flushes are soooo much better now...
I didnt even realise that changing from Magnesium and calcium mix to Calcium and D3 mix ( Natecal) would have any funny effects... but then I twigged after many weeks that the only thing I had changed was I was not taking magnesium, then after a google I see magnesium helps alot with flushes, so, hopefully that will be relieved abit now. couldnt believe they returned with such severity having 6 to 12 a day 😮..
I am in year nine of peri and had no period since Aug 2013, but as you mention headaches, I got some rotters in 2012 /2013 and always before a period came, that was a new type of headache for me, awful, migraine etc, lasting 4 days and nights solid pain, all hormonal related but thank goodness thats passed now,.. glad the B6 is helping and I know its changed my live and thoughts etc, I am 50 next week and so pleased I can enjoy life again.
good luck Laurie ... Jay xx

I dont think magnesium will help hormonal headaches... they didnt for me..
and for the B6 i wouldnt take too much .. stick to 100mg - 150mg daily see how you get on... ( well thats what I would do) and take when you get up ..
I dont take HRT I do the Vits and natural route.. been taking Estroven Max for years but when I have finished these, as been on them for years, I shall have a change to Menapol Plus ( natural) .. I dont remember your age or how long you have been in peri for Laurie..
my experience with the blasting headaches is they seem to come just before a period came, and I had two episodes in 2013 as well as feeling bery sick aswell, and only two periods, so maybe the heads get worse as you near menopause final.. thats what seems to happen to me.. but headaches I dont get now as dont have a period.. ( not for 10 months) ..... I get the odd vague headache as we all do but not these rotters I got before a period last year and year before.
I just took a paracetomal for headaches last year or a ibuprofen... 😕
I also take Maca, B6, Natecal ( Vit D3 & Calcium) B1 but I take B1 mainly to keep mozzys off me as it stops them biting you, and magnesium again.. and an iron tab every other day now.. also have B12 for energy ...
think thats it ... Jay xx

I got prescribed B6 from gp 100mg per day, will let you know how it goes. I have had the day from hell, left doctors in tears and cried ever since! Got up this morning flet so light headed, sweating and weak, vision was like when you bend over and get up too quick, I only started to feel better about 2 hours laterI after eating a banana and then somthing with little bit sugar in. I mentioned all this to him, saying I felt it was like either low blood pressure or blood sugar, his reply was 'well both fine' I was like errrrm that was 6 months ago, anyway he took bp which was fine and booked me for a blood test tomorrow to check for diabetes, I am sure this was just to shut me up. I also said I felt the light headedness was worse since starting the mirtazapine, he agreed it could be that or it could be menopause. He said so what do you want then, a change of antidepressants or HRT, something called premique (anyone taken this?) I said what about B6, I have heard that's good, again he agreed I could have that, but not with the HRT. Like you I would really rather try the natural route, I must admit my diet isn't the best, I have been bingeing on chocolate a lot lately and I wonder if that is making me worse, the mirtazapine not helping with that as it causes cravings!
Googled the type of HRT he wanted me to take, and side effects include anxiety and depression! Oh and it's more for postmeno women. Also the other antidpressants he wanted to prescribe were SSRI's which I am sensitive to! I often wonder if they read our notes! I also asked him what bio identical hormones were, as I suspected he didn't have a clue!
Sorry for waffling. Hope you are well xxx

oh bless you... glad he gave you some B6 though, take in morning daily..
as for bio dentical hormones. personally I think they are more high risk than HRT ...
are they safer ?
No, they aren't. The term "bioidentical" means the hormones in the product are chemically identical to those your body produces. In fact, they are — but so are the hormones used in many FDA-approved hormone replacement products.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and several medical specialty groups, bioidentical hormones may be riskier than are hormones used in standard hormone therapy, and there's no evidence they're any more effective.
Marketers of bioidentical hormones say their products have these advantages over standard hormone therapy:
so the decision is down to the patient I suppose, but not a decison for me personally I wouldnt touch either..... I want no risk at all... natural way if possible.
as for your blood sugar, I too crave chocolate, but... I am still losing weight, but I am exercising daily now and never sit down and B6 can assist weight loss in some people... in 2011 I had a fasting blood sugar blood test and it came back borderline type2 but I am fine now it was peri and all that going on, I am not overweight at all, but... you do need to think about your diet abit if its poor, you need to put some good things in your body to feel good back..
hope you get on okay today ... Jay xx

So sorry to hear that you are still not feeling good. I am currently on Elleste Duet HRT and nearing finishing my 3rd packet (3 months) and have continued to take my Busy B vitamins which has an all rounder of B vits - 100mg and have now added B6 only 100mg to bring up my daily allowance to 200mg and are feeling good. When I last spoke to my GP I did tell her what I was taking along side the HRT and she said it was fine. I have found an extract as you started to worry me when you said your GP didnt advise it when taking HRT. Take Care xxx
Hormone replacement therapy helps lessen menopausal symptoms through prescription or natural means. Some women prefer a holistic approach to restoring estrogen while others take prescribed synthetic estrogen replacement pills. No matter what your preference, taking B6 and other B vitamins is safe when using HRT. Speak with your physician before starting any supplement. Keeping your doctor informed will help manage treatment effectively. B vitamins such as B6 may actually help HRT by assisting absorption through the bloodstream.
