Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Sorry for all the symptoms you are having.  I too have been having incredible anxiety, lightheaded, occasional palpitation.  I started with tingling sometimes all over sometimes just in an extremity.  I have have nerve conduction study, EMG, cardiac workup, thyroid checked, and tons of labwork and everything came back normal.  the cardiologist said that I occasionaly have PVC's but everyone has them and they are perfectly normal.  I just feel them sometimes.  I was talking to my sister in law who has the same thing happen to her and she says it is her hormones causing it.  I have noticed that the week after my cycle I feel fine then I start with the tingling and anxiety until my next cycle.  I am convinced it is my hormones.  Went to see gyn and he said my progesterone is dropping to low after ovulation and gave my progesterone to take.  I will start them on day 12 of my cycle.  I am pretty sure it is my hormones doing this to me.  Does anyone else have the same issue with it occuring only certain time of the month?

hi steph i'm so glad you've mentioned tingling all over cos i get that and thought i was the only one. Its weired isnt it, i seem to get it about a week or two before i should be due on but it can also happen randamly, its with me all day and sometimes two days then disappears. It makes me feel quite strange, you know not with it and i sometimes get the shivers with it. I don't have a clue what to do about it as my GP and specialist don't really answer me so i just have to see it through but like you it makes me anxious.  I too think its all hormone related and one of those horrid symptoms we have to endure.  Keep on chatting sending you a comforting hug

hello back jay, hope your ok.  I havent had the legs sensations like you it is just all over from head to toe.  All the research i've done puts it down to anxiety but i cant see it being that in my case when im have it and any peri sites only say tingling in extremities which i thought was your hands and feet.Even my lips tingle.  I must say i've had the best three days i'v had in 2yrs i even felt like my old self for a whole day.  I actually went into town on my own and went in 2 shops then onto the hairdressers BY MY SELF. OMG i sound so sad but i'm sure many of the ladies on here know exactly what i mean.  take care jay and keep up the fab guidence you give us all.  hugs a plently xx

Hi, just want to say well done on your shopping trip keep fighting the good fight. I once watched a sci fi comedy film, the film was rubbish but they had a mantra through the whole film.

"Never give up never surrender". and that is what I keep telling myself.

    Hello

Just to let you know that I have increased anxiety, depression symptoms since I have been post menopausal.  My anxiety is almost panic attacks, and my depression can bring me to tears for no reason.  I have found the over the counter Estroven that helps a lot.  I take the one for irritability and it surely helps.  when I don't have it, I begin to feel myself gong down to anxiety and depression agian.  it surely helps me.

I still have some anxiety at times, but nearly as bad.  I am much more relaxed and can be myself again.

Hi ladies. First time joining this discussion and am relieved to know I'm not alone. Physical symptoms are a general feeling of weakness in limbs and a foggy head. For about 10 years now, (I'm 48) I've had vaginal dryness for which my gynae prescribed Vagifem once a week and which I have to admit, I keep forgetting to use. In the last couple of years, I've had recurring thrush. Pessaries were having little lasting effect so my nurse practitioner prescribed Relactogel which I used as prescribed and the symptoms seem to have eased a bit, although I'm feeling a little itchy again for the last couple of days. I read somewhere that thrush is a result of low zinc in the diet so I'm taking a zinc supplement daily now. And then, of course, there's the hot flushes, lack of sleep, irritability, moderate pain in several areas all over my body, and anxiety which is the most debilitating of all. Why aren't there menopause clinics around so we have somewhere to go and talk about these things? Thank god for forums like this. I don't think docs take the menopause seriously. I have been to the docs so often in the past few years, trying to find out if any of my symptoms are the result of some awful underlying condition, but I've just ended up wasting precious NHS time and money. I can't wait for the next few years to pass. Looking forward to my 50s !!

Thanks Jay. Yes, I'll try some B vits. Read about those on an earlier thread. I have been tested for thrush and had it confirmed, although that was a couple of months ago. I'm going back to the nurse pract next week for her to test me again. Am using canesten cream for the itch in the meantime. Will get some extra supplements today. Stay healthy xx

Hi, how has menapol helped you? I have been having nausea and anxiety . Dis you consult with your GP before you started it? They seem to be so ill informed about perimenopause.I have been going to GP since November and have been diagnosed with a vestibular dysfunction. This explains the lightheadeness which has gone but not the nausea, anxiety and low mood.My Physio spotted that my symptoms are probably perimeopause. My hair is also falling out and I read this is one of the signs of peri. I am taking vitamin B2 as my consulatant said it would help with nausea-but it needs to be tried for 3 months. Thanks
