Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Oh my god. Minus the migraines you just described me in a nutshell! I went to my PCP, my obgyn and a GI doc.  It turned out that I had fibroid tumors which I had removed and the gave me some relief. But now they're back as are the symptoms: nausea, vomitting, fatigue and a period every two weeks. I also am very shaky, to the point I can't bring a glass of water to my mouth without spilling it everywhere.  And I have the jelly legs. It's terrible. I feel like I'm going to drop over like a dead tree. I hate to say this but I'm so relieved I'm not alone in this.  I wish I had advice you could count on but I'm learning to let myself off the hook and rest when I need to and not feel guilty for needing to. This will pass.

For the past 6 months I have experienced all these symptoms. All my blood work and tests normal. Thought I was dying. Finally my doctor diagnosed it as perimenopause and recommended max strength Estrovan.

So glad I am not the only one.

This sucks! I am 44 yrs old. A few months ago I experienced hot flashes (my husband says I felt like an inferno)  during the night and also vaginal dryness..I knew I was heading towards menopause but didn't realize all these other symptoms . In May I started to have fatigue, forgetfullness, urgency to urinate, digestive issues,  (loss of appetite, naseaous, constipation) I thought I had some sort of stomach virus or some disease. I made an appt with MD and explained my symptoms. She stated I probably had a stomach virus. She ran different test and all came back clear. She also stated that it appeared that I had some anxiety issues and I agreed. I noticed that my anxiety was at an all time high. She sent me on my way. My digetive issues got better and I was feeling a little more energized. Then after two weeks I was back having the same issues a few days before my period. I did my research and convinced it is all hormonal related. I also noticed that my period has drastically changed. I was bleeding heavy and now my period is very light and last for 2 to 3 days with small clots. My energy level worst in the morning as the day goes on it picks up some, but this is miserable because I was a person full of energy. I hope this pass and very quick. I am currently taking omega 3 f , b 12 methyl, b6 which appears to help some.

I see you are new to this rodeo too...the anxiety has had me in the ER 2 times...I hadn't connected the two until this last time...I am still waiting to be cleared by the cardiologist..but the more I am reading, the more I am seeing that its most likely due to hormone fluctuation,  YES!  It does suck.  I went from being a person who handled things to a shell of a person at times...

I never had headaches much before menopause but definitely menopause has caused me to have sickly headaches, not quite full blown migraine but migraine auras, these funny heads come and go but I also relate them to the allegies which I now get which cauae heavy itchy watery eyes x

I just joined this forum today to search for answers for myself..and I have not had a check up yet...but it appears I can check a LOT of these symptoms for myself.

I am 46 years old and within the last 2 months have had issues with all of the above,,,

Is it common for the perimenopause symptoms to coinside with your "time of the month?" I seem to be getting the double whammy of both PMS (which is more severe as of late) and most of the symptoms listed in your post.  This is all so crazy...I went from 0-60 in a months time...and I am not sure what to do with myself...lol

Same here. Everything is a blast 5 days prior and during. Ugh. Losing my mind isn't an option right now, or ever.

I was so glad to find this discussion while I was awake as usual at 4am. I have felt so completely lost and confused. I wake up to a feeling of dread every morning way before my alarm (I don't even bother to set it any more). I toss and turn as I think of all kinds of gloomy things until I can't take it anymore and I start scrolling on my smart phone for distraction. I have many of the symptoms described here: gastro issues, irregular periods, anxiety and depression to name a few. I have become someone I don't recognize. I am really scared that life is passing me by and that I may never be me again. I have a husband and three kids and I just feel so disconnected from them. I have talked to a therapist which helps some. She has had lots of helpful suggestions like meditation but some days I am just to worn out to do them. Thank you all of you who are sharing here it helps to not feel so alone.

      Hi all

I have also joined today 1st time on a forum as each day is a struggle - I too am worse at night and when I wake up - my mood sometimes shifts as the day goes on but it is sporadic at times - my confidence at work is affected but it's hard to explain that to colleagues so I keep it covered up.

I'm going to look into the magnet at Boots mentioned in an earlier post to see if that helps.

I have started mindfulness but don't always have the motivation or confidence to go (kind of defeats the object!)

I've cut out sugar for other health issues and that has helped with the physical peri menopause symptoms but not the anxiety.

Thanks to all for your openness.

Hi.  I am new to this forum, but alas not new to the the symptoms of menopause.  I am 54, have been on anti-d for a long time, not hormone related.  I was on the pill (YAZ) for several years (5 or more) to initially control my heavy periods that had suddently arrived, but also to help with my anxiety.  I guess my question is, like you carla, i am experiencing many of your symptoms but mainly

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

    Brain Fog

    Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

I tried HRT (Fenosome) but didn't feel it was right, for some reason.  I have decided to go back on YAZ today.  Just wondered if anyone else is using this pill and if it helped.  I see this post is a year old, so hope you are feeling better and if so how, just time or found a "cure".  I fear if I cannot manage this better I will have to leave my work due to my making stupid mistakes and forgetting what I am told 5 min after I have been told it!  yes I am making more notes, but seriously - loosing it!

hi, I'm just wondering if going back on yaz helped you with your symptoms? I came off yaz to find myself going through weird symptoms for a year and 8 months and I'm convinced its peri. I think the only thing is to go back on yaz. Did it help your situation? Thanks.
