Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

That sounds very much like narcolepsy. Have you been checked for that?

I agree this does sound like narcolepsy.  My friend and her daughter have this and it sounds very familiar.

I understand but they're totally different and it's like I'm totally awake and then 5 minutes later all of a sudden my head starts bobbing and it's not the same at all I'm not to teach when I'm driving or when this happens and it comes out of nowhere and I don't sleep all day and that kind of thing and I don't get tired it's not a tired feeling it just happens and sometimes you fall asleep or you have to try to stay awake until you can even depending on the situation but thank you but it's not I've been tested at 6 neurologist when they were trying to diagnose my nerves disorder my nerves autoimmune disease and then I start going to Emory for about 4 months which is here in Georgia and that's quite a ways from where I live so I'm back and forth for quite a while and then they even sent me to Mayo clinic in Jacksonville Florida so I've been to a lot of really prominent hospitals he has a couple of doctors thought something else but then Emory diagnose me but I know the difference narcolepsy like I'm more all the time thing and it's where you always feel tired and that's not what I was saying at all but thank you I've been to a lot of the best places in hospital so I trust their judgement especially Emory and saw the head of Neurology there so I've been poked and prodded for so many years and they have no cure because they can't find the class so basically I just have to take meds which causes problems in itself

I think that the medical profession need to totally rethink and take the menopause more seriously.

women have so many additional problems at that age such as elderly parents, grandchildren work etc. This makes it almost impossible to cope hot 🔥 flashes lack of sleep leads to less productivity and I personally can't remember simple things?

its a horrible time for us ladys and I want more support from GPS

I started premenopausal symptoms in my right after having my first and only child at around age 33. I had two regular periods per month for a good 10 years and seen all kinds of doctors and always told everything normal. I only had two weeks in between my periods. having my child is what regulated me and everything stayed normal once a month regular periods.

I started getting a lot of blacked out vision feeling lightheaded standing up or just getting up from a sitting position. it would start out with a Lotta pressure in my head and pulsating like I can feel my heart pumping the blood through my body and slowly my vision would go completely black.

after several doctors appointments I’m still told I’m too young for menopause but then again I stopped going to doctors because nothing ever happened to treat anything.

I had to see dermatologist because I would develop a little pimples and they wouldn’t heal and instead feel like the creeping around growing bigger and bigger and last for months. i’m thinking it’s some sort of plaque psoriasis. this is me guessing because doctors never really give me a final diagnosis or anything.

I was told that I could possibly be anemic which is an iron deficiency but it was never cheated because it doesn’t show up in my blood test the exact moment I’m at the doctors. in the middle part seems to fluctuate from day today. I think I get it more when I’m supposed to have a period but nowadays it’s starting to not show up at all except for symptoms. I get severe anxiety, these lightheaded blackout vision spells and feeling sick all the time. I feel like I have a fever but then my temperature is always low.

my mood swings and my menstrual cycle started to go really haywire and very intense. after that I went six months without one at all still getting very intense mood swings. now I am on my five months without a period again but this time the mood swings are so much more mild thank you Lord. seriously needing a straight jacket is probably normal but no fun at all!!! be gentle with yourself!!!!

I give a big hug to anybody who is dealing with all this because it’s really sad that people around you just don’t understand and really make you feel like you’re a horrible annoying vibe to be around. I promise you this goes away. I didn’t think I was ever going to get through it but I believe I’m closer to the end and hitting menopause.

I can only hope this will bring me more relief.
