Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,
I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.
My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.
Brief list of symptoms...
Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)
Brain Fog
Feeling detached and 'spaced out'
Weak and Shaky
Jelly Legs
Weak Fingers and Toes
Sensitive to light and sound
Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)
Light Headed
Light Dizziness
Easily tired out
Occasional Palpitations
Frequent urination (occasionally)
Anxious (more so than usual)
Brief History...
I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.
My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!
Is anybody experiencing anything similar?
Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Yes I get exactly that feeling. It feels like my legs are sinking into the ground as if I'm walking on a mattress. Sometimes the pressure is so great in my head it feels like it will burst and also like someone is gripping my head really tight. When I walk I feel off balance and sometimes bump into things. I know exactly what you mean about shops, nightmare. It feels like you are falling over when you are standing still. I find it really scary because you look ok from the outside and there is all this turmoil going on inside. I hate going places on my own now. I have had vertigo as well which seems to have cleared now but the weird stuff has been with me for a long time. Still trying to get to the bottom of it but this Vit b stuff sounds worth investigating. Lots of luck with finding a solution. Xxx

nice to hear from you, join the club 😃 sorry to hear you feel so peri ...
please consider vit B 6 its a god send... i am aged 49 and in year 9 of peri, so have experienced many things along the way, ( last period was Aug 13) so hoping I dont get another then I have reached full meno..
my doc gave me vit B6 years ago in early peri, didnt really explain the good they do, so I was none the wiser and a busy bee, and never got anymore, they were prescribed by the Doc in Uk at that time. ( i live in spain now)
anyway after much research and not on HRT I discovered the good they do for peri, and went and got some from the farmacia here, they are 300mg and the first month i took half ( 150mg) and felt alot better, energy amazing, and now i take the full 300mg ...
i also take other things, natural and at the moment i feel amazing... anxiety not been an issue lately ... try them see if they work for you..
take care Jay xx

Thought i would just mention you should really get b12 checked before taking supplements because if your levels are ok you do not want to take anything to much b12 can give the same symptoms as to little, also as in my own case you may have low b12 but not be anaemic,i have started my cbt now hoping that works for the anxiety ! Had an awful night i dnt know how many of you experience a vibrating sensation throughout your body and also just felt generally unwell and not with it, cnt wait to be my old self again ! Hope everyone gets sorted soon x

I am 43 and was diagnosed with out of the blue spontaneous panic disorder 8 years ago. since then I've been taking medications which have needed tweeking at times, however have always been able to get on top of things and get on with life! I have not had a menstural period since January this year, which has never happened before, so I suspect I am in the delightful throws of peri menopause,or perhaps menopause itself! in the last few years I've sweated like a horse, I've had the night sweats, irregular and flooding periods! Just of late I have also had the occasional hot flash! All copeable for me. For the last week or two (feels like forever)though I feel so anxious, I have like an electric shock feeling in my head constantly on movement, i have a very weird shaky anxiety sensation going constantly, I (how's the time to excuse the TMI) have been going to the toilet (not for number 1s) far more frequently and have at some times not been able to fill up on food and at others have no appetite! I cannot live my life like this, I don't want to socialise, I dread leaving the house, feel completely unmotivated and agitated! Having been a nurse in a D&A unit previously, I would diagnose me with a mild version of withdrawl! What the hell is going on??? I feel so unmotivated and unwell that I feel hopeless, my GP is fast to get into and that's why I go to him, I have an incredibly supportive husband who is very worried about me, but again has no answers! I just feel terrible! Ive had these feelings before, usually premensturally, normally I'll take a Valium, feel better and move on! Valium is taking the edge off, but defs not taking it away. My husband says I shouldn't be drinking, I have 2 glasses of wine a night, and to tell you the truth, it's the highlight if my day at the moment so am loathed to give that up. It may seem as though I'm depressed, I actually think I'm circumstantially "flat" but not clinically depressed! I just feel like I want the physical anxiety to go the hell away! Any similar stories, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it would definitely help to not feel like I'm the only one who has ever experienced this (although I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy), I'd like to know what you did, how it went! I'm not overly keen on HRT, my darling 41 year old sister is currently in the throws of oestrogen induced breast cancer treatment, I'm not sure I'd risk it, although with regular breast scans it may be an option. I hope I don't sound like too much of a basket case, if so, is just my fears and feelings being reflected!

As I sit hear trying to force down some breakfast, I'm dreading having to drive to an appointment. I'm 49 years old and have been on celexa for almost 5 years. I had an nervous breakdown in 2009 and it literally changed my life. I've had bouts of anxiety since then but it would pass within a day or two. My husband and I drove to San Francisco last Thursday and drove back Friday due to a severe anxiety attack. It's Wednesday and I'm not any better. My symptoms are just as you describe. I feel like I have a dark cloud over my head. I had to take another week off from work and I'm scared I won't be able to return right now. My doctor informed me that increasing my celexa would probably not work. He suspects my hormone levels. I'm scared and feeling pretty desperate to try anything.
You are not alone.

this may be helpful ..
Adrenal fatigue, for example, is a common secondary condition for many women going through perimenopause. B-vitamins support healthy adrenal function, along with calming and maintaining a healthy nervous system. Many women also suffer with mood swings during perimenopause. Both B12 and B6 vitamins aid in the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, a key brain chemical needed to stabilize moods and promote feelings of wellness and contentment.
For women who suffer with brain fog, and memory issues in perimenopause, low levels of B6 could be part of the problem. Depression, confusion, and an inability to concentrate are all associated with B6 deficiency. Vertigo, dizziness, and heart palpitations are also common complaints from women going through perimenopause. All of these symptoms have been associated with (among other things) a B12 deficiency. Vitamin B6 can also help with stubborn weight gain in perimenopause. It is key in the breakdown and utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in our diet, and is necessary for a healthy metabolism - both which can help manage weight.

Thanks so much for your speedy reply! You must type a lot faster than me!
I am actually taking a product prescribed by my naturopath which contains high doses of vit Bs, I've been taking it for around 2 years, it's called meno plus 8, I also take magnesium and a multi, they've helped a lot in the past with mood, I've had crappy patches before, but never like this. I will definitely double check the amounts of each B though!
Muchly appreciated
