Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Feeling a bit fed up today. Went o Dr yesterday who has put up my tablets to see if higher dose helps. I take amitriptyline for head and face pain. Feel rubbish today - it always happens when I change dose. I'm going to dentist Monday to see if hecan help with TMJ and that may be the cause of pain. Also having blood test to check thyroid function - I don't want to have a thyroid problem but part of me hopes they find something because at least they will know what to treat. On top of this, on day 7 of period. I just wish they'd stop. sad

    Hi Mooma

bless you feeling fed up... hope it soon passes, as for anti depressants. I find they dont help, they make your brain non focused, and make you feel worse and not in control, that was my personal experience..

years ago i was on many, and when i weaned off I felt much better, level headed and then furthered my career, more more focused to deal with my life...

hope you feel better soon hun... Jay xx

Sorry to hear you're down Mooma. If you have thyroid probs, it'll just be a case of taking (another!) pill, easily sorted - my niece was diagnosed at 8 and she'll be taking pills for the rest of her life but will be fine. It's good to know what the problem is, isn't it? It must be awful for you to be living in constant pain, very wearing. Good luck at the dentist

    Hi Mooma

yes good luck at dentist Monday, maybe theres another type of pain killer they can give you, for head and face pain, amitriptyline maybe making you feel worse ... can make you feel very thick headed and whoosey amitriptyline...

hope you get sorted soon hun.. Jay xx try and enjoy the day sweetie xx

    Hi ladies,

Step closer to success today - saw my doctor at 6:50 tonight and he is referring me for full bloods and also checking my thyroid and HORMONES... It's a start. He didn't laugh at me, he said people are different so where the average age is 45 for people to start peri, it's not unknown at 39 - I am to return once my bloods are back. Relieved but still a long way to go xxx

That's great, CVQueen. I was 37 when I started peri and GPs have varied in attitudes (favourite was young male who categorically said menopause happened at 53 and that was that). Good luck! BTW I had 2 children in next 3yrs so be careful!

That's encouraging news campervanqueen, I'm also waiting on blood test results to see if I'm in peri, it sort of helps to know that something is being done, wishing you luck xxx

Wow!!! I have been on some crazy roller coaster for six months now... Started as a mental breakdown for three weeks, after recovering from that I have been experiencing 2 or 3 weeks of normalcy and then 1 to 2 weeks of anxiety, dizziness, and brain fog and then back to normal again and then back on the roller coaster... I never thought of the possibility of peri menopause.. Actually I had never heard this term before... I am 34 with a 2 and 5 year old.. Healthy and don't take medication... This whole thing just took me by surprise and has been very difficult to figure out what is my problem.. Been to doctors who shrugged it off as anxiety or vertigo.. I am going to make an appt to see an endocrinologist.. I am not interested in taking meds.. One thing that has helped me is my faith in God.. I do recommend it! God Bless!

    Hi Nicole,

Please keep on at your doctor - it's taken a while for me to get this far with my surgery as the nursing staff have basically told me I'm too young to be suffering from peri. Yesterday, my doctor finally saw sense and is sending me for full bloods, including hormone testing xxx persevere my lovely xxx are your periods irregular or erratic? Mine have really started changing xxx I too have faith, very spiritual indeed xxx love and hugs to you xxx

But can't remember what else I thought maybe anemia but I've been anemic before and don't feel the same as that now I'm 46 so probably menopause but don't have a lot of the symptoms as the other ladies talk about x
