Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi CarlaCupCake! Thanks for taking the time for writing your list of symptoms. I'm going on 14 months without a "real" period. However, I still have light PMS symptoms every 28 days. The only difference is the symptoms you listed above.

Here is my brief list of symptoms...

    Pressure in my head.

    Fatigue

    Weak and Shaky

    Jelly Legs

    Light Headed

    Light Dizziness

    Easily tired out

    Nausea

I used to get the hormone migraines too.The brain fog went away so did the exhaustion (I take DHEA for that). Still I occasionally get those monsters migraines.

Most of my symptoms have faded and that is awesome, but this new dizzy, weakness with the Jelly legs thing is horrible (all listed above). I workout everyday and this is a real set back. Today I almost passed out on the treadmill  and my limbs feel like heavy logs. Who knows, tomorrow I could feel amazing! This too MUST pass! I totally appreciate you all posting. I don't feel so isolated in my journey...

      Hi EvaServal

Your list of symptoms are identical to mine plus i have terrible anxiety to add to it.

It seems to have all come out of nowhere.  I am 48 years old and feel i am going mad or going to die!

It's horrible and i am getting nowhere at the doctors, apart from being offerred SSRI's which i don't want to take but seems to be the answer to everything.

I've just found this forum and it isn't good to know that others are suffering but it is good to know I'm not alone in this. smile

ho stressed you poor hun, i feel the same since jan 2012 and my GP has no interest or time for me so i'm going it alone except for this forum and the lovely helpful ladies on here.  We try to help each other, cheer each other up and know exactly how you feel.  Its rubbish i know and i worry how long am going to be able to keep my job as i find it hard to get through the day sometimes and I'm responsible for an office but feel i can't think straight, remember things and dizzy but if i give it up i'll just be at home thinking about how i feel all the time so there's no winning.  sending you a comforting hug

      Hello Ladies,

I read some of your post and the horrible things you're going through, I've been through. Only I'm in a different stage. I want you to know to keep your chin up because it will pass. You can still work and run your offices. I remember going into auditions and not being able to remember my freaking lines. I'd also be really shakey, which sucks! However, my memory is strong again and that phase is over. Not shakey and no memorie lapse... Now I'm in the dizzy, pirate, jelly legs with naseau phase! Oh YEA!!! LOL  Yesterday I was strong and doing an amazing workout and today... pffffffttt... I will to the treadmill or hip hop abs. I will not let this beat me. I actually fight it like we're mortal enimies. LOL I will win!!! ARGGGgGGHHhhhhhh!!! I wish you all the best! Big Hugs cheesygrin

      Hi

How are you feeling now? Did you get to the bottom of your symptoms? I'm thinking of coming back as a man next time!! x

Pretty much every day I feel like that.  Once in a while I feel half normal.  I seriously wish that the dizziness foggy space would go away. My doctor told me to suck it up, that there was nothing she could do. Ugh.. you so not alone.  Hugs

How are you feeling now? I hope you are doing good and eventually got to the root of your symptoms - did sound like anxiety or peri or both x

hello fiona and julie, after having some seriously weird and debilatating sensations or symptoms what ever they are i feel the most horrible one's are the off balance, anxiety, dizzyness, brain fog and generally feeling off every day.  Like you i don't go too far on my own but have improved cos i wouldn't even walk down our road on my own cos i thought i would faint. I do set myself tasks and have to push myself. Last week i started yoga after making excuses for 2 weeks not to go.  Its in my village so not too far for me. I was getting ready to go and didn't want to, i got there and didn't want to go in, i went in and didn't want to stay, i started the yoga and thought i would faint all the way through but i did get through it and was proud of myself but didn't enjoy it BUT i will go back next week and try again cos i think at our age we've got to look after our bones so i'm trying to help myself. (hope i practice what i preach). I know how you are all feeling and its just not fair. No one told me that my life will completely change and this stage.  hope we all improve soon and give us a rest.  Comforting hugs to all fellow peri's x

      Hello Ladies..

just reading all the posts again, hi anxiousface 😀 bless you with the yoga, i have a dvd set for beginners at home but still has outer wrapper on, 😳 have been feeling not too bad lately, but have about 6 hot flushes a day everyday, they did pass for me but have reared their ugly head again, so even in 9 th year of peri you just dont know do you... the brain fog seems to have eased and the terrible anxiety i had a few months ago, not anywhere near as bad, still get the odd off day but the hot flushes are really a nuisance for me... hugs to all Jay xx
