Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Has anyone noticed having really dry eyes and a really dry mouth whilst peri menopausal ? X

Yes, I have both. The dry eyes I have eye cleaner and drops for. It really helps! For the dry mouth, I just keep sipping on water. Found that gum and mints help also. I have some dry mouth lozenges, but haven't tried them yet. Fun, this menopause crap, huh?

Hi! I have felt this for ages and I thought I was the only one!

I have felt extreme fatigue for about 2 years and for the last year have felt the rest of your list with frequent urination being the most recent.

I am only 20 and I'm so lost as to what to do! My doctors are awful, although I have an appointment tomorrow where in going to ask they do a blood test and check for under/over active thyroid as this seems to have a lot of the symptoms! I've also considered CFS but doctors told me no with no actual reason! Feeling very fed up with it all now as just want to go back to how I was sad memory blanks and struggle getting the correct word along with constant fatigue are the worst!! Xx

No but i was also going to ask them to test that when they do a blood test today! It's so hard as there's such a massive list of what it could be as there's so many symptoms. Thanks for your input x

thank you everyone for sharing valuable information ...

new to the blog and in the early stages of menopause.

The progesterone cream seems to help with mood, and I notice it when I skip a day or two.

Curious as to what helps with weight gain and bloating>?

I've had the worst cyles ever followed with 2 weeks a month of hormonal hell ... smile

I'm currently taking natural lithium orate 120mgs a dag (5mg pure),

progesterone cream, adderall for ADD and this natural perimenopause herbs for AM and PM. I just started lexapro for mood and energy.

Still feeling a lot of anxiety which the adderall normally helps with, and still a lot of bloating and weight gain, and a major lack of energy and motivation.

(I'm normally the energizer bunny smile )

I'd love to hear what specifically works with these issues if I missed it in the feed.

    Many thanks smile

    You sound very like me!

I have always had PMT symptoms around my ovulation time rather than just before my period. I have most of the symptoms you describe in your post and since I miscarried last November the symptoms have been much more severe around ovulation. Aswell as the physical symptoms my anxiety has increased during this time too along with feeling as though I'm having internal tremors and feeling weak. I started taking centralise about nine weeks ago. It took a while but I've started to feel so much better until the last three days. My period was 21 days late as they've been messed up since the miscarriage. Yesterday and especially today I feel a bit anxious and quite out of sorts.....like I'm coming down with something but I know I won't. My husband and I are pretty certain all this is hormonal. He's noticed a great improvement in me since I started taking Sertraline but today I feel as thought it's just not working. I'm sure in a few days I will feel good again.

    Hi Carla

I have been feeling really awful for about 3 months now, I have pains in my back, sore ribs, 1 breast is painful, headaches, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness and I'm so tired all the time. I've been totally focused on my health, convinced I've got something really bad, but I've had blood tests, chest xray, ecg and a mammogram and all are clear. So I'm sitting here thinking that they've missed something, worried sick or maybe I'm going crazy when I came across this site. All my symptoms seem to be the same as other people suffering perimenopausal anxiety so I'm hoping I've finally found out what is wrong with me as think my doctor thinks I'm a hyprocondiac. X

Hello ladies I just turned 45 and I believe I'm in PERIMENOPAUSE. My periods are here and not here light and then heavy. I have this pressure in my head which is SOOO nerve wrecking and scary my joints ache my lips have been seriously dry for over two months now and I keep having to use Chapstick 24/7. My lips are so bad they are puffy and red is anyone experiencing this symptom? Are these things part of peri? My sleeping is off I feel tired but wake up every two or four hrs. I feel like I'm losing my mind I cry at everything I'm scared my heart feels like it's always pounding. I am irritable and feel sad a lot. Mornings are the scariest I wake up with my heart racing and I feel so scared and sad like a feeling of doom and gloom. Oh ladies does all this sound familiar? I found this forum and fine hope that this is what they call going thru the change and I hold on to the hope that maybe someday this all will pass.

I have all the same symptoms except for the dry lips. I have dry itchy skin and scalp, doom and gloom, racing heart, hot and cold feelings, weird head pressure, crashing fatigue, horrible anxiety, tingling extremities, excessive gas, and a gazillion other symtpoms. You definitely sound like Peri to me. The symptoms will come and go. I can't tell you how long because everyone is different. You are in the right place for support. The ladies here are amazing. They share suggestions, support, and their expirences. We help each other. Its not a pleasent time, but you will get through it. Hormones can be mean. Start with blood work to make sure you have no other health conditions with symptoms that can mimic Peri and see what vitamins and minerals you are in need of. Once thats done you can start to see how to make the symtpoms ease or go away. I hope this helps. You are not alone. We are here for you and welcome to the forum.

Thank you jamie50513, I felt alone but I have found solace in this forum. I did go to my GYNOCOLOGIST and all he did was prescribe anti-depressants. I was so upset I don't think or want to be on anti-depressants I just wish Drs could suggest something else. I know hormones are the last thing they want to prescribe us because of side effects but goodness there has to be something. For now I have changed the way I eat and taking vitamins. But most of all prayer and faith for all us women going thru this transition.

My gynae did the same thing. She said i had anxiety and depressed and needed to talk to a pysh and gave me antidepressants. I have only taken two and that was because my panic attack was horrible. Changing the way you eat and taking vitamins will certainly help. I've done the same things and its a big help. Not 100% but we have to help ourselves and start somewhere. Hope you get some relief soon.

What is the pressure in your head like? I have something like that too.

I've also got this head pressure on a daily basis front of face sinus kind of thing my eyes feel strange too sets my anxiety off like a visicious cycle it's really scary makes me dizzy feel sick

I know exactly how you feel. Some nights I sleep ok, seems like the closer to my period the worse the anxiety, hot flashes, and insomnia gets. I wake up in a full blown panic, I get so overwhelmed and scared that I cry constantly. The crazy irrational thoughts that run through my mind are just scary. I fear I may go crazy at any point and will have to be commuted. Thus low estrogen low iron and perimenopause sux!
