Period every 2 weeks

I had an ovarian cyst which was diagnosed in december last year and at my most recent ultrasound 4 weeks ago the cyst had gone, it was 1cm so was now classified as a large follicle not a cyst.

Right in the middle of my cycle, almost down to the day on my pill packet I will get a full period. It’s not spotting, it’s like a normal period during my active tablets. The blood is normal nor heavy or light and lasts 5 days.

I am 31, take microgynon 20 which i have always taken and never had a problem with, i couldn’t be pregnant so it’s not implantation bleeding.. I just don’t understand what is causing it. Everything on my gynae ultrasound looks good uterus, endometrium, ovaries, tubes etc but it is starting to really affect my life. It’s been like this for the past 5 or so cycles.

I’m missing my daughters swimming lesson when I have my period, I have appointments booked that I can’t go to, my partner and I have no sex life and our relationship is suffering.

How long have you been on that pill for? Are you taking any other medications or herbal supplements?

I’ve been on the pill for about 18 months, since I stopped breastfeeding my 2 year old. No herbal supplements or other medications

How long have you been having extra bleeding?

The last 6 cycles I have had an extra period in the middle, except for last month was normal and I thought it was because the cyst had gone that it was all finished but yesterday i started bleeding mid cycle again so now not convinced it was the cyst causing it.

Yes my last one was just over 12 months ago and they put me in the 5 year compass trial. Everything came back normal.

Is the pill your on progesterone only or is it combined?

P.s I really appreciate your help working through all of this smile

That’s ok! I would strongly suggest coming off the combined pill in your 30s the side effects can be very bad. I got multiple pulmonary emboli from being on the pill when I was around about your age. I was on the pill since my teens though with a couple of breaks here and there. It also can cause depression and mood swings.

I will be honest I am not sure what could be causing the bleeding, but maybe ask your doctor for another smear test just to be safe and ask about other types of contraceptive. Maybe the progesterone only pill, estrogen can be quite harmful. The other thing I will suggest if you are bleeding twice a month is take multi vitamins and minerals if you are not already taking them. 1 period is bad enough, but 2 a month must take it out of you!

I had thought about stopping the pill, I thought if I just come off it and see what happens so I think that is a good suggestion. Even just for 6 months and see if things naturally sort themselves out.  My last lot of bloods said I was a little low in iron, so multivitamins are another good option. I would like another smear test, I think I accepted the compasss trial without really thinking enough about it. I feel as though it is all caused by some hormonal imbalance, hopefully that is the case and I can get things under control. Thanks again x

It's definitly  a hormonal imbalance as always happens mid cycle, mention it to your dr and I'm sure he won't be concerned,I always have a few days spotting inbetween around ovulation time and all normal.you could try another pill, you have a had a recent smear so don't even worry about that,it was normal 😁take
