Periods after Ovarian cyst removal, care to share?

Hi everyone,

I had my dermoid cyst, right ovary and tube removed in July and although I found the recovery hard at first I did recover well and all is great now apart from the periods!

I had a bleed immediately after surgery and had to wear a pad for a few days.

Bearing in mind that my periods before were never 'regular' before and the fact that i'm on the implant my periods now like clockwork but very painful. Like this one im having now is stabbing pains on the right side...... How is that possible if there is nothing there?

This is the 3rd period i've had since surgery, they are every 28 days and lasting for a whiole week, i feel like i'm 16 again!

Any advice welcome smile

Hi sorry to hear your having pains again but I’m glad I’m not the only one, I had same op back in January via laparotomy and for the last few months I have been experiencing the same kind of pre-op pain. It’s getting to the point where I think I’m going to have to go back to my GP but when I mentioned it a while back I was just told it can’t be anything because there’s nothing there anymore!

I had a lot of adhesions removed during my op so all I can think is that more have formed. My pain seems to happen more if my bowel/bladder is full so my GP put me on fibre drinks and it seemed to do the trick. It makes me wonder that my pain previously experienced was the adhesions and not actually pain caused by the cyst but from the build up adhesions from other abdominal surgeries. Does this sound like it could be the same for you?

Hi!! I actually had the exact same procedure done three days after you posted this! I was wondering, how are your periods? My first two periods went by normally but the third month, my period was intense and I even had really awful cramps during ovulation which I’ve never had. And now my fourth month, I’m bleeding five days early and it’s painless and much lighter. What’s your experience with your periods? I hope recovery has been well! biggrin xx
