I am to !!! 🤗no worries. I have no more periods (hysterectomy) but at this point I’d go the old way cotton wrags. Sounds bad but LS is wors. So yep like in the old days.

Periods are now just not a nuisance but they are not a mental game. I need to psych myself up just to prepare for my period because the chances of a flare up or high. I use Natracare pads or Seventh Generation pads. Tampons are a whole other issue. I like anything that uses organic cotton, but you do have to change them more often. That friction can cause the flare up so I do not use them that often during my period. It sucks.

Hi there Donna I am in the very same position. I was advised by my GP to use a menstural cup instead. I have suspected allergies to tampons and pads he believes it has something to do with dyes in them. Everything has to be organic. I have extremely heavy flow and when I use tampons I become so swollen that I can’t use them. Have you been on the pill for the flow? It tends to reduce the amount and you then get breakout bleeds rather than periods themselves. I however haven’t tried the menstural cup yet as I can’t get the hang of it or work out the size needed.

Please try the menstrual cup there is a bit of a learning curve but it has been the best thing ever for me since there are no chemicals or cottons it has made a world of diffrence. You have to atleast give it 2 cycles before you give up and there are lots of YouTube videos to help do you research it will save you during your cycle. If you have question about that I could help with please ask

Menstrual cup has been the only the b.c that has helped me and it's been an amazing diffrence. Before I knew I had LS and had awful breakouts during that time of month tampons sucked the cotton got stuck because of being dryer due to the LS and the chemicals would call me to become inflamed. Menstrual cups were amazing there is a bit of a learning curve with them there are lots of YouTube videos to help y po u figure them out you have to atleast give them 2 cycles before you give up on them. You can buy the most common one in the US called the diva cup at most pharmacy's like CVS and Walgreens or target. There are alot of diffrent kinds online because they are really popular over seas. if you have any questions let me know it's been a life saver

If you are able to, I would recommend trying a diva cup.

I am the same as you, every month the use of tampons would set off a flair up. Before I started using the diva cup I was using organic tampons and they were alright, just not super absorbant. Pads were out of the question for me, too much irritation. With the diva cup I get 0 irritation at all. No more flair up's. There is a bit of a learning curve to them and I know some women with LS have too much pain to use them, so it depends how bad yours is at the moment. But it is worth looking into. If you get one and are having trouble figuring it out (getting it out the first time is tricky), you can just google or youtube it and find lots of help smile

Fortunately I no longer get those and can't imagine what your going through to deal with that along with Ls. I have heard that Amazon sells 100% cotten feminine products which may help. Someone else on here may have better advice for you! ??

I make my own cloth pads and it feels like I am not even on my period. There are a lot of tutorials on Pinterest. Also, consider getting a bidet. If pads and tampons are causing you flare-ups it could be because you are allergic to the bleach and other chemicals they use in these products. Toilet paper also has bleach and can cause irritation. My $35 bidet and cloth pads have been the best things I have done for stopping irritation.

I buy Naturacare organic cotton panty liners and the tampons w/o an applicator. It took about 3-4 tries to learn how to insert properly but they are more absolute favorite nd I wish I had discovered them sooner. They seem to make my periods easier.

Hi donna they are said to help with heavy flow as you don’t have to change them regularly. You can empty them easily enough too. I too am shocked by the lack of understanding of LS my stupid dermatologist told me it doesn’t happen to women in my age I am 33 had this at least 2 years. Waited 7 months just to see a dermatologist and waiting for biopsy results 3 Drs said I had LS and dermatologist turned around said “you should be pleased I think it’s eczema LS is a serious skin condition you know” I point blank refused to listen to this woman and asking for second opinion it actually looks nothing like vulval eczema. I am getting out there and talking about it. We are here for you. I am a new member on here but I am absolutely here for you.

I would say it's good for heavy flow. I think I have a pretty heavy flow and I use a smaller size one and only have to empty it in the morning and before bed. I'm shocked to about the lack of knowledge about LS it took 2 years for any gyno to even suggest a biopsy or LS being an option hope you find something that works for you

      Hi Gemma ,

yes hang in there , and change doctors if you have too !!

My doctor a lady gp , said straight away I had LS and referred me for a Biopsy to my gyno , who he refused biopsy saying it was pre menapause dryness!  I’m not sure if I’m pre menapause or not still haveing periods,,  I went back to my gp she then referred me back to gyno again insisting on biopsy , aventally I got one , and results being  LS

it’s incredible that a gp knew more than the gynocoligist !

Also was looked at by him to say don’t tell me about my job , hope all goes well for you I know it’s so frustrating to deal with and hope you get some relief from any medications they give you also help onhere is great !

      Also ..

I’ve just youtubed the cup , looks scary but will give it a go , while I was youtubeing I also came across ,,  thinxs mentral pants they are made off cotton any one used these ?

I’m a bit nerves off useing that cup not sure if I can stand the pain off trying to put it in ,, so might also google these knickers if any one has used them on here let us know if they were any good thanks

Hi Donna- I’m 33 daus diagnosed and hv switched to 100% organic cotton pantyliners and 100% organic cotton tampons- bought them on Amazon, no irritation from these at all. Important to keep yourself really clean at this time and put  some moisture barrier oitment of some kind ( mine has Vit A. E. D i. It from Medline) to keep irritation at a minimum.
