Has anyone had experience of this.  My son who is an alcoholic, although he hasnt drunk now for a year, suffers with this condition.

Are there special socks and shoes that anyone can recommend for someone suffering with this condition,.

Thank you

I would love to know this too, I have been getting by wearing sandals over the summer but that's not going to last now the weather is getting colder. I've tried shoes that are bigger but they aren't helping, it's the feel of the extra weight on my feet that I'm having problems with and that they feel so tight on

Try all wool socks and wide size shoes. I wear the socks most of the year even to bed. The is something about the wool that I do not understand, but it does help. When I can I wear sandals made by "Crocs" which are very loose on my feet instead of shoes.

My experience has been different. I took ages to find a suitable sock, definately needs to be Merino wool. Opposite to what you would think they need to be snug, not loose. The shoe type, with the right sock doesn't matter. Ordinary walk shoes to work boots, just the socks have to be right. Registered Diabetic socks did nothing for me. The ones that work are Holeproof Explorer Wool Blend Extra Dry. In the end I did find some from a market that work as well. Bought 12 pairs, once I found they did the job, at 77 that will see me out. I have spent dollars and time on this, but success comes to those that persevere.

    Hi Sigotaka,

I dont know that diabetic support hose are that great for nueropathy, or if they make it worse. I have been told not to use them because they will keep the blood flow from circulating to the nerve, if there is a chance for it to come back, but I am new to neuropathy, and dont have an official diagnosis yet.

Hang in there! And greatful to be in recovery, alcohol is insideous.

Yes, you can get compression socks at CVS, usually anyplace that has a pharmacy, Also it really helped me when I got a pillow that raises yoyr feet up while you sleep. I had just had surgery and had to saleep on my back, so it was easy to do. Ask your hospital who makes the pillows in your areea. Hope that helps. Jody
