I had a Peroneal tendon transfer as part of total ankle reconstruction surgery in October of 2018. I had the surgery on my right ankle and I find that I can't lay on my right side for any great amount of time or I wake up in pain. Also wake up in pain if I sleep on my back and the covers push down on my toes for too long.

i had mine 3 years ago and i've never NoT had pain. i cant walk much more than half a mile without pain with a tri-lock brace and good shoes. i, too, have pain with my ankle at night and have pain when my surgical area lies flat on the bed.
Today the doc says the problem is arthritis in my ankle and i need ankle fusion. Just started researching.
