Peroneal tendon surgery

I had peroneal tendon surgery 16 weeks ago. Looking to see if anyone else has had the same surgery... after I sit for awhile and take the weight off of my foot, I can hardly stand up ..... the pain in my ankle is so bad when I stand that I have to stand still for almost a minute before I can take a step, and then I have to put my weight on my heal to walk instead of using my whole foot.

I've had the very experience you're describing. I had both the tendon and ligament repaired at the same time. I was told I'd be non-weight bearing for 3 weeks but I'm still unable to put weight on it after 3 months. I'm starting to wonder if my doctor made an error that my recovery is so poor and painful. I've had to seek concomitant treatment from a pain specialist and a wound care clinic and despite that, I'm still in constant pain and frustrated by not seeing much progress. Has anyone seen someone post-surgery for a 2nd opinion on the success of their procedures? I'm so glad to have found this post in that at least I feel I'm not alone. I have no complicating problems, such as diabetes etc. to explain this result.

Good morning , I had recent surgery December 15,2017. I had a perineal tendon repair and a scope of the ankle . With me tear they had to deepen the grooves . I have had pain and it’s hard for me to get up for a long period of time right now as I feel like my pain gets worse . However , the worst pain I feel is at night . I’m not sure what happens, if my ankle or tendons have spams or if my ankle is just so relaxed that I move it too hard but In deep sleep I get awaken by a sharp horrible pain that literally makes me cry every time . I’m not sure if this is normal at all as I have not read anyone else say anything about it . It’s just the pain is so bad and if I do move it more than what I am supposed to in my sleep I’m scared of messing up something . I know it’s only been a week but I thought that with surgery the perineal tendon pain would be gone but now I have this pain and I’m just so frustrated . 😔

I had the same surgery you did except I had to peroneal tears. My surgery was on 11/7 and I just transitioned out of my boot into a shoe however my ankle still hurts and aches and gets pretty swollen. I had pain in the middle of the night like you do for the first 3 to 4 weeks then it calm down and didn't hurt anymore.
I'm getting very discouraged and feeling like it's never going to get better. The end of next week will be 12 weeks and he extended my leave of absence for 4 more weeks after that.
I'm going to physical therapy twice a week in that does seem to help.
Good luck!!

Hi Mary
I had surgery Jan 10, 2018 to repair a ruptured peroneal tendon after my husband stepped on it carrying a bag if cement over a year ago. The doctor said in 23 years of practice he had never seen such damage and I was in surgery almost 3 hours. Long story short, I just got a hard cast on and am non weight bearing for 6 weeks then they will reevaluate. I am in so much pain and at night it's even worse. How was/ is your recovery going?
Thanks
Charlie

I started getting bad pains on the top if my foot now...the doctor said it's from arthritis it has nothing to do with the repair that he did. he wants me to have a ultrasound guided cortisone shot. Has anyone experienced that before
