Peroneal Tendon Surgery and no cast

Hello, so I just had my surgery this Monday to repair a longitudinal tear in my peroneal tendon. The doctor in my papers wrote that he performed a tenosynovectomy and tubularization of the brevis peroneal tendon.

The thing is that I read that everyone seems to have gotten a cast after this sort of surgery. My surgeon didn't place me in a cast and said that he preferred me using my walker boot while recovering. Yet, the nurses at the hospital told me the boot was only to use when I was "walking" around. But, is it really okay to sleep and have most of the time no form of support for my ankle?

I currently just have bandaging on my ankle and I slept like that the previous night at the hospital and how I am sleeping tonight.

Any opinions?

I had that surgery on my right foot about two years ago. Right after, I had a splint held on with ace wraps, but then went into a boot.I did use pillows to kind of brace it while I was in bed. I didn't ever have a real cast either, though! It all healed up well.

      Oh alright thank you!

I just felt somewhat confused and concerned because almost seems to mention they had to be in a cast right after surgery.

      Thnaks!

I had the tubularization and groove deepening surgery last June for sublexation of the peroneal tendons and to repair the damage to the tendons caused by sublexing. I was also put in the splint like cast and ace wrap for the first 14 days then staples were removed and it was wrapped in ace wrap and I was told to wear the boot but I was not allowed to even put my foot down on the floor. I had to use a knee walker for the first 5 weeks then crutches with gradual increase in weight bearing over the next month until I was finally allowed full weight bearing. I spent 7 months in physical therapy starting at 2 wks post op. I think it was about 10 wks or so post op before I was allowed to sleep without the boot on. It was 12 weeks before I was allowed to drive.
