    Hi Nicola,

I was prescribed the 50mg on 24th dec, the first week was cloudy but it gets easier. I'm on day 10 now and it's getting easier.

    Just stay positive,

Your body will initially try to reject this medication for the first few weeks. I know it's difficult getting through this stage, especially with the underlying illness.I have been on this medication for 3 years,it has gave me my life back and aloud me to work.I hope you get  the same results soon.

I kind of tricked my body into acceptance by introducing sertraline slowly- first half for couple of weeks, then the rest. I hardly noticed side effects except dry mouth, tiredness and low libido

    Good luck xx

Hi Nicola, the exact same thing happened to me when I first started taking it. I started to feel unwell and was sick but this only happened after the first time I took it and from then on I felt fine. Also, I have noticed that if I forget to take a tablet it can be a bit of a problem. One day is fine but if I take it again after two days I can feel sick again. I hope this helps, it should stop if not I would suggest going back to your GP and see what they can advise.

Hi everyone, I've been on 50mgs for over 3 months now never had an increase at all and not really and side effects to worry about, a little belly trouble and the runs but only for 4 days then it was plain sailing from then on. My only advice would be to stick with it no increase in till 8 weeks and that's only if you need it. Weeks 6 or 7 wasn't really doing anything what so ever I thought about coming off them as they never seemed to help but by 8 or 9 weeks It was a wonderful feeling they finally kicked in and I was back at work mixing with the lads and having less thoughts about horrible things. Some say it takes around 3 to 6 months to reach full benifit and I totally agree as I'm getting better each week. I won't increase or drop down dose as I'm at that nice level now that I never thought I would be. My other advice is don't increase within 8 weeks as it may be pointless suffering for you. I also take propanalol to help with the anxiety rushes but I'm weaning off them as we speak as don't need them at all now. Good luck and keep going strong I'm take sertraline for obsessive thoughts and anxiety

Good to hear Scott - thanks so much for sharing your positive experience & reassuring us "newbies" on the drug. It seems many people are changing from one med which stopped working after a long time, or like me are trying something new after a bad experience with the side effects of another drug. It's the uncertainty and self-doubt (one friend suggested to me that the drugs weren't working because maybe I wasn't depressed!) and trying to be patient that is the hardest thing sometimes. But we all take one day at a time, and if even that's too much, then one hour.

Best wishes for the future mate. Glad you are back working & socialising.

      Digsby
