Persevere or change med?

Hi, been taking sertraline for 4 weeks, 2 weeks on 50mg and 2 weeks on 100mg. I seemed to be picking up but for the past 5 days seem to have gone back to the start 😦 Intrusive, dark thoughts are back and just have no motivation. Can't enjoy myself. Do i stick with this med at this dose or should i go back to the doctor? Thank you for any advice

Kay, you are still in the early stages of this. I am speaking through what we experienced when my daughter (at the time age 25) went through this. It is a very slow-acting medication that can take up to 6 weeks or more before you even begin to have good days - and then, it is an up-and-down roller coaster (unfortunately). As my daughter went through this, it was people on this site telling their stories of success that gave me hope (she was really in no shape to go on sites like this, but I read her the success stories). One of the ones who helped me the most was from a someone named Kate who posted her "13 week success story" - I know, 13 weeks sounds like a lifetime to you now, but you CAN get through this. My daughter's journey mirrored Kate's, in that she began to have some good days around 6 weeks but lots of backsliding - as I said, up and down but was back to her old self by about 12 weeks. She slowly increased her dosage until, around the 10-11 week stage, she was up to 150, which as high a dosage as she went. But having only been on this for 4 weeks, you still have a ways to go. It seems you have increased pretty quickly. Obviously check with your doctor, but try to hang in there even at this dosage for a while and you will begin to get better and better. I can tell you that my daughter, by 12 weeks was back to her old self and has been thriving ever since - that was a about 18 months ago and she was able to taper off the meds . If you can find Kate's story on here - maybe by searching - I recommend reading it, it will give you health. Bless you and know you are not alone.
