Persistent UTI driving me crazy

please help me.

i used to have reoccurring utis about 5 years ago- trimethoprim used to work as a charm and they disappeared after i had ny tonsils out (linked?)

i got a uti 4th of nov- got cefalaxin. it got better but i still couldnt have trousers on due to uncomfortability which i assumed meant that the infection was there- 2 weeks later i got test results from gp saying i had a resistant form of e.coli and got new set of antibiotics- as i was on them i took a pregnancy test- which was positive (very happy news). last period date being 3 november.

my symptoms for uti are insane- my clit gets uncomfortably stimulated and i feel like i have to rub it to release the tension but if i do that the same feeling comes back with a vengence. i have to keep pushing in the toilet and if i stand up theres a horrible sensation over my vaginal area which makes me want to jump out the balcony. so this is a major problem for me unlike the symptoms of "i pee a lot with a burning sensation".

i cant bare this feeling anymore. its been 4 days sense i finished the last course of antibiotics, and mornings are horrible followed by symptom free nights. luckily i gave another urine sample on friday (waiting for results). can someone help me? starting to think uti came with the pregnancy.

or maybe i have screwed up genital area that needs to be fixed or something. i got the same symptoms when i was little around 4/5- i used to rub myself back then and remember how bad it used to get - my mum had to sit with me in the toilet to help me get through it. and now i just cry in the toilet for a hour before i force myself up and into bed.

what is wrong with me?

Oh wow, your recurring UTI sounds so much worse than my old symptoms. But I will tell you how I got rid of mine after 2 years. I found out that the antibiotics and hormones in the feed of chickens was scientifically proved to cause recurring UTI's in women. I switched to organic chicken and the symptoms greatly improved. Then i started taking a probiotic everyday and I haven't had it since. I'ts worth giving it a try.

i dont eat much meat and when i do its organic...so i dont know if thats relevant? i used to have cranberry juice (sugarfree) didnt help. i drink lemon water, doesnt help, 2 L of water it gets bareable. i dont understand what has changed in the last 2 months to make this come back. i cant exercise when i feel like this, barely walk. i have to work and go school and i do go because it seems to calm down after a few hours and i would be wasting a lot of time just sitting at home. + if im around people i get distracted and they help me not give in to the tempation of masturbatin to sooth my irritation- this isnt the easiest thing to come out and say but 27 years old and i dont give a crap anymore just want someone to understand - dr dont seem to get the frustration. i wouldnt mind just the pain. but this is agitating, frustrating and no one seems to understand exactly what im talking about. or do you? im waiting now to be able to get my pants on without wanting to punch something to feel something else a part from this sad

Hi Oz, it's been over 30 years since I was pregnant (congratulations on the Happy News!), but one thing I do remember is that you've suddenly got a whole lot of hormones rushing about, causing very different 'feelings'.  It seems no coincidence that all this started when you were first pregnant. It may not even be a UTI, but you should have your results back by now anyway.

Rubbing can cause an inflamed urethra, as you well know.  Hormonal changes can cause soreness and inflamation as well (I thought I had thrush a couple of years ago but it turned out to be 'hormonal changes').

Whatever you do, beware of too many antibiotics because of your pregnancy.  And beware of stronger antibiotics being prescribed by docs who don't know what else to do with you.  After Cephalexin they often turn to Ciprofloxacin which is very serious (originally for anthrax!), and can actually cause you permanent damage.

My suggestion, if the e.coli has cleared up,  is to get a midwife appointment ASAP for help and advice with the inflamation.

i have managed to get an early appointment with the midwife tomorrow :D i know how bad antibiotics are and want to stay away from tem as much as possible! + it can induce thrush and make this into a vicious cycle.

thank you for your reply! i will update after midwife incase someone is reading this (i have searched these threads and finally decided to ask my own question) glad i got some opinions- i suppose its hard to get a miracle cure :P
