Perthes and having a baby

Hi
I was diagnosed with Perthes when i was 9. I did not have any surgery, but had to stay in the hospital for 3 years before i was allowed to walk again. I've been fine since then, however i can feel my hip aching if walk a lot.
I am now 24 and 20 weeks pregnant. I have seen my obstetrician who didn't seem to know what the condition is. So i would like to hear from those of you who has kids and your experience. I am getting worried that this might be overlooked when it comes to having the baby leading to complications.
Any suggestions and advice are welcome
Thanks

I was diagnosed with Perthese when I was 7, I am now 32. I had a wee
boy 3 years ago. I had absolutely no problems at all to do with my hip when delivering Sam, apart from the fact it was a bit painfull afterwards but so was everything in that region! Unfortunately since then I have had a hip replacement but that was nothing to do with giving birth, my condition just got worse and had been doing so since before Sam was conceived.
Hope everything goes well for you.
All the very best

I was diagnosed with Perthes at the age of 11. I am now 46 years old with 2 wonderful children. I had a natural birth for my first child and a water birth for my second child. Without any drugs except gas and air!!!
I had no problems at all - I explained that I had restricted movement in my left hip due to Perthes to the nurses.
I have since had my hip replaced in October 2007 and again I have had amazing results - I am doing everything normal - jogging, gym, etc...
Hope everything goes ok with your pregnancy.
Good luck
Melanie
