PFO? ASA or ASD? I'm a bit confused. Help?

I'm 17 years old and in a recent echocardiogram, that was done because I was getting short of breath easily during exercise. The doctor found out have a Atrial septal anyersum, with PFO. There is no leakage, and he said that I just need to do a follow up once a year. And stay clear of scuba diving, hydrate alot and keep my teeth extra clean. If anyone has any insight they can share on this condition please do! I'm slightly confused.

Thanks!

Borrow some books from the library and read up on heart conditions, thats what we did when my husband got sick with heart failure, lots of books, I have become a specialist in my husbands heart condition.

It gave me enough information from medical books to understand what was going on.

It has also given me the ability to speak to the DR'S and quiz them about husbands heart condition, why, and what are the dangers, also our GP has been wonderful, with explaining what was going on.

My own understanding rather than ignorance has I believe saved my husbands life in Easter this year, when I refused to accept the junior Dr's were right, and I pushed for understanding of what was going on, and reports that should have been given to our GP so he could watch were not given to local GP, didn't even exsist on hospital file, oppps.

Professor or most senior cardiologist in the heart hospital was not happy when I got a message through to him after husband collapsed, nurses comments were would not want to be in juniors shoes after that little kerfuffle.

I let them have it when the cardio came to visit husband enquiring why he was back in the hospital, using correct medical terms and also at the same time eliminating all other possible reasons for his pain in his arm and the tests, x-ray, cat scans, and ultrasounds that had been done to check out other possibilites, it was his heart all along, his symptoms were very obscure and not in the regular range of symptoms but I had nailed it in one.

Never saw the juniors after that, only the professor himself, I would loved to have been a fly on the wall in the meeting with his junior staff.

Why the comment about teeth? Haven't heard that one. Have similar issues as you.

Any infection of teeth, can affect valves in heart, a known link, so thats why the Dr's would be telling you to keep your teeth in good condition.
