Phenylbutazone?

I got a last minute appointment today at my local Rheumatology clinic due to a cancellation (yay!) I've now been told that it sounds very much like AS although they would not make any kind of diognossis without further tests and I have been reffered for a non urgent MRI scan in the next few weeks and I have been prescribed a new medication Phenylbutazone now if memory serves this is what they give race horses... is anyone else on this? how do you findus it? lol I've been on Naproxen in conjunction with an antacid for some time now but the Doctor in consultation with the Consultant suggested this medication as it's specifically for AS.

Hi there carl, are you still Phenylbutazone, how do you find it working for you? And perhaps you would like to have a chat with your rheumatologist, phenylbutazone is not used nowadays as it's known to supress the bone marrow, and can cause low white blood count. All the best Carl =)

      Hi Sarah,

I'm still on the Phenylybutazone and I'm now 100% pain free in my hips but I still  have the odd pain in my back and some Policemend heel... I'm going back to the Rheumy in May for a check up and possibly a change of medication as unfortuantely I've had some side effects especially when the dosage was changed or if I have a glass of wine ocassionally I will break out in half a dozen mouth ulcers and my Mother tells me that I have very little patience and have become more irritable so we will have to see come May.
