phlebotomy

I've been having venesections for a few months now and wondered if anyone else feels fine at first after having it done, but as the day goes on starts to feel aching in their chest like it's being squeezed? Can't seem to sleep with it and it goes on into the next day as well.

?I also feel very emotional and down afterwards. I just wonder if its the blood cells reforming etc in the body that makes you feel like this and if anyone else encounters the same?   Thanks

I had venesections once a week for 16 weeks and after a while I started getting tired the day of the venesection and then, towards the end I was tired the day after which is normal. I’ve never experienced any other symptoms.

No, no symptoms like that - usually feel good.  You should get the chest feeling checked out - report it to your dr/haemotologist.  Nothing written about feeling down, etc, symptoms of blood cells reforming, etc.  Your body goes on to drawer out more iron that is stored in your organs to replenish your blood.

I am sure you are following the recommendations of lots of fluid and something to eat beforehand - don't go on an empty stomach.

Is your Hb high enough before venesecting?  Maybe regular Vit B12 will help.  Also make sure your Vit D is good.

Ok thanks guys for your input. I do make sure I eat and drink plenty before I go for venesections (and after) I will get this checked out as it's obviously not the norm feeling afterwards! The last time they checked my Hb was 14.5  but they don't check it every time so not sure what it was this last time I went. Will also look into the Vits side of things too.

    ?

?Best wishes and thanks again  xx
